“Oh, God no,” he says. “That can’t happen until both Bob [Gale, co-writer] and I are dead. And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it.”
So sayeth Robert Zemeckis, director of the trilogy that came out during the 80′s and also the co-writer on the first one along with Bob Gale. The pair have been asked recently about it, particularly since so many franchise are getting extensions, reboots and reworkings in different ways.
“I mean, to me, that’s outrageous,” he continued. “Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?”
While we may not be on board with some pieces of the sequels, the trilogy as a whole continues to be a lot of fun and it holds up fairly well in replay value, providing you take a wink towards what the “future” looks like.
Hopefully the property can find some extended life elsewhere though, perhaps in the form of a LEGO game? We’re just saying…
