As Star Wars Rebels gets ready to hit its midseason finale on December 12th, as the season is scheduled for twenty-two episodes compared to the fifteen of the first season, Disney XD has revealed that the series has been renewed for a third season. The new season is expected to hit in late summer/early fall 2016 depending on how the back half of season two plays out for its arrival.
“We’re very proud of our incredibly creative Rebels team. The show continues to tell fun, heartfelt, exciting newStar Wars stories week after week, and it’s beloved by fans of all ages. Season Three will see our rebel heroes face new obstacles and find new allies in their fight against the Empire.” said Lucasfilm SVP of Development Kiri Hart.
In addition to that, Disney XD and the official Star Wars channel have released two new clips for tomorrow’s new episode on the network.
The series stars Freddie Prinze, Jr., Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar and Vanessa Marshall. The second season got underway on October 14th, 2015.
Plot concept: Set five years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and fourteen years after the fall of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Council in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the series follows a motley group of rebels (all of whom have been affected by the Galactic Empire in one form or another) that band together aboard a freighter starship called the Ghost. The series will also focus on the origins of some of the groups that will form the Rebel Alliance.
