The anime adaptation of the web manga series Million Doll from Ai has gotten a few new updates through the official site today about the production. First, the series has now gotten a formal July 6th, 2015 premiere date in Japan with the exact roll out to be revealed as we get closer to that date. In addition to the date, more casting has been revealed for the series as the supporting side grows well. The new additions include Aina Kusuda as Sūko, Yuichiro Umehara as Ryūsan, Miku Itō as Mariko, and Aya Uchida as Hinami Kamakura.
They join the previously announced Aina Kusuda and Miku Ito will be playing the leads in the series, though which characters they’re playing is still to be revealed for the summer 2015 anime series. Kusuda is best known for her work as Nozomi Tojo in Love Live! while Ito showed up recently as Nanko Usami in Locodol. Yui Watanabe has joined as Momona while Mayu Iizuka will be playing Rina.
Keiichiro Kawaguchi will direct the show based on scripts by Momoko Murakami. Kawaguchi has a solid list of works behind him, with two shows last year with Dragon Collection and Jinsei, but a lot of his works aren’t shows that have been picked up for release. Murakami has several shows in their recent credits such as Magical Warfare and Locodol.
The series began back in 2013 and can be found here online to read. The project is being headed by Asahi Production for the animation and since it revolves around idols, it’s going to work the casting through public auditions, which certainly makes sense. The series is being planned for a July premiere date and several events are being planned in Japan to promote the show and those that end up being cast in it.
Plot concept: The story revolves around Sūko, an idol-loving hikikomori (shut-in) who has one ability: To make any idol popular through the power of blogging. She puts her sights on the Fukuoka idol Itorio and tries to make her sell more, but she is impeded by the charismatic idol Ryūsan and the underground idol Mariko. The author of the manga is an idol otaku herself.
