Tammy ‘s decade of experience in the bridal beauty realm prove one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt – she knows her beauty products! Let’s hear from her why she never leaves her brides without these beauty essentials…

In the Primer of Life:Hydration and skin balance is key to how your makeup is going to wear. If your skin is too dry, it will eat up your makeup and if your skin is too oily, it will break up your makeup. There are so many great primers and moisturizers out there, so find what works best with your skin type. My suggestion is if you are oily try Hourglass – Veil Mineral Primer from Barneys New York , and if you are dry try Laura Mercier ‘Hydrating’ Foundation Primer from Nordstrom .

A Solid Foundation: Your foundation is so crucial to the overall look of your makeup. To look flawless, yet not over done, foundation plays a big part. I love Dior ‘Diorskin Airflash’ Spray Foundation from Nordstrom .

Beauty in the Blend: BeautyBlender ‘Pure’ Makeup Sponge Applicator & Cleanser from Nordstrom is a great tool for applying foundation and blending.

Matters of Contour: For a light contour you can use powder bronzers, but for serious contour you will need to use foundation sticks or concealer sticks. Pick one that is at least three shades darker then your skin tone and one that is at least three shades lighter than your skin tone for highlighting. I suggest Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick from Nordstrom .

Hitting the Highlights: A highlighting concealer is your best friend in your makeup bag. Use one that is light weight so it doesn’t crease around the eyes. It works as an eraser around the eyes and lips. I suggest Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Éclat’ Radiant Touch from Nordstrom .

We’re All Set: Use a setting powder that is light weight. You need to set your makeup before applying any pigment or color on your face to ensure wear power and blendability. I suggest NARS ‘Light Reflecting’ Loose Setting Powder or NARS ‘Light Reflecting’ Pressed Setting Powder both from Nordstrom . It is talc free and doesn’t matte you out too much.

Draw the Line:Make sure to use a waterproof eyeliner. MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack from Nordstrom is a good go to.

Hey There Bright Eyes: A nude or flesh tone eyeliner in the inner rim of your eye will give a more open look to your eye. Try Chanel Le Crayon Khôl Intense Eye Pencil from Nordstrom .

Raising a Few Brows: When filling in your brow, use a tone that matches the lightest tone in your hair. That will give a natural effect to your brows. Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Brow Wiz’ Mechanical Brow Pencil from Nordstrom has a good variety of colors.

Walk the Tight Line: Tight lining the eye is one of my favorite eye tricks. Fill in the liner at the root of the lashes – it will give you a natural line and a full lash look. Laura Mercier ‘Tightline’ Cake Eyeliner from Nordstrom works great for this.

Coral and Teal California Wedding from XOXO Bride – Alice and Jake

Alice and Jake’s bright and colorful wedding was held on their private ranch in Santa Paula, California – the groom’s childhood home and their home together. Designed by XOXO BRIDE ‘s Saralee Franchi, the wedding captured all the nostalgia of its countryside setting and was truly the wedding of Alice and Jake’s dreams.

The Goals: We wanted a summer wedding, so we planned our wedding in 4 months which meant that making decisions quickly and keeping it simple were priorities. We also wanted our guests to experience the beauty of the property that we live on which is also where my husband grew up.

The Design: It was important to us to have a casual, nature-inspired wedding that was also beautifully designed.

The Look: I loved wearing the same vintage hairpieces that my grandmother, and my mother, wore at their weddings. The hairpieces are made of wax orange blossoms. I also loved wearing a lace wedding dress because it felt like it fit the setting.

The Moments: The ceremony was my favorite part. Hearing Jake’s vows and the words that his sister had prepared for us (she was the officiant) just filled me with happiness. I’m glad we didn’t share our vows in advance, so it was the first time I was hearing them.

The Advice: Make decisions based on whether it fits you both as a couple and shows your guests what you love about each other. It’s all about the love!

A Secret Garden Themed Wedding from Alabaster Jar Photography

Nicole & Mike’s wedding simply defines lovely.  From its romantic hues to the infectious joy, and all the gorgeous personal details in between, it just doesn’t get any prettier than this secret garden themed affair. Personalization is the key to a dream wedding, especially when the celebration is rich in DIY details with the most unique rustic styling you will ever lay your eyes upon.  Join us as we share Nicole & Mike’s beautiful wedding story along with amazing images captured by the talented Alabater Jar Photography .

The love story

From the Bride (Nicole): Mike and I met while we were away at college in London, Ontario. One of my roommates was dating one of Mike’s roomates and eventually we met and became good friends. Mike had his eye on me for a while before I gave him a chance!

We were friends for two years during school, I moved back home which was about 3 hours from London, while Mike had to stay for a third year after summer. That summer, I spent a lot of time with my friends from college, including Mike. A group of us ended up at a cottage in Grand Bend for July long weekend, that’s when Mike decided it was his last chance to pursue things. We started dating that week.

We soon realized what we were in for, we lived 3 hours away from each other and Mike was soon leaving for 2 months in Europe. Our relationship got serious quickly, having been friends for 2 years was such a blessing. I think it only took about 2 or 3 months before we both knew each other was the one.

The proposal

Nicole: The proposal was not any girl’s dreamy, romantic scene; it was very typical “us” –  clumsy and full of disasters. The day started with me being sick, and yet I spent it cleaning his Grandpa’s house with his mom, romantic I know. That night we drove up to my parent’s for the weekend.  Mike was acting funny making way too many stops that we never made going to my parent’s.  He was stressed, texting like crazy, making me drive around with him to do errands, needless to say I was not a happy camper.

I spent most of the drive (the whole drive) yelling at him and complaining. We finally made a stop at St.Georges Church in Georgina. About 5 minutes from my parents house. I asked why we were pulled over, Mike said: “I have to pee”! WHAT?!  At a church are you crazy? He then said “come with me” (yes this is our proposal story).

After much convincing, as it was freezing cold and raining, I followed Mike as he led me to a spot over the lake. He paused awkwardly and finally got down on one knee. I was floored. Absolutely the last thing I was expecting!

After the worst day, I’m engaged. Mike had tried so hard, to bring me to a beautiful spot by the lake as it’s my favorite place in the world.  He was running into issue after issue all day long, and it just became this big complicated mess of a story, that led to the start of our amazing journey.

A secret garden wedding theme

Nicole: Our wedding theme was a secret garden.  It was to be intimate, chic, very magical and full of love. Our venue delivered! All the twinkle lights, lanterns, hanging vines, full size trees, water features, it really felt like you walked into this secret magical garden that no one else knew existed, it was just us, our family and friends, and our new life.

Wedding design & details

Nicole: We had about 220 guests, all seated for a full serve 5 course meal. Our florist did the most amazing job; the centerpieces were breathtaking, along with the rose pedals showered over all the tables, that was of big importance to us and for our theme.

Our budget, never really was determined. We wanted to get married asap, we only had a 7 month engagement. We didn’t really roll with a budget; the wedding overall came in at about $40,000.

Mike and I agree that our favorite moment was when I walked down the aisle. Before the wedding, a friend had mentioned that she didn’t remember seeing her groom at the altar because she was looking around at all the guests.  I made sure that my eyes were locked on Mike, and he watched me every step I took. I walked down the aisle to the song Main Title by Aaron Zigman, it was the most amazing moment, it felt like a dream and neither of us will ever forget achieving that intimate moment.

The day was so very special and personal to us because I made sure we had little touches of our personalities everywhere you looked. Tons of do it yourself project, nothing came together; nothing came as a package deal. We picked every little color, every fabric, charger plates, signature drinks, handmade decorations.  It really tied the whole thing together!

Wedding planning priorities

Nicole: The important things to me for our wedding were the visuals.  Mike not so much. All he needed was food and he was happy. I had been on Pinterest for months dreaming up what our wedding would look like, watching “Say Yes to the Dress” like it was my job.

From the very start my priority was to have a unique venue. There was nothing more that displeased me than to picture us celebrating in a hall somewhere, so not us. I proceeded to look at barns, gardens, pubs, breweries, anything that would give me the foundation I needed to start my dream wedding.

Advice for other couples

Nicole: Our advice for couples planning their big day would be to really have involvement from both bride and groom.  Mike really had no interest in the details, colors, textures like I did, but when it came down to paying for it – he cared. It is important to attend meetings with the caterer, florist, venue operators, whatever it may be, together. If one person is doing all the research and planning, then you are going to run into big issues when the bill comes along and your significant other is mind blown and wondering when why how where did this all happen.

Another thing that became huge for us was not having to please the crowd. We came from very different families with different traditions. We had to work really hard to do what was pleasing to us, what we believed in, and what we ultimately wanted our day to be about.

A Secret Garden Themed Wedding from Alabaster Jar Photography

Thoughts from the photographer

Alabaster Jar Photography: Where to even begin for this wedding, I don’t think we’ve ever seen a more unique venue. It felt like we were under the stars, in Tuscany, when really we were hiding away from the first Blizzard of the Canadian winter. The greenhouse made for amazing pictures, with greenery on the ceilings and walls, twinkle lights everywhere and an industrial look that you normally have to go searching for.

The colours were so soft and clean, the bridal party was huge, loud and so much fun, and for our first time we had some bridesmen, which made for a predominately male bridal party, as i’m sure you’ll see.

Nicole was calm, cool and just knocked every photo out of the park! When it came time to shooting the first look and Mike and Nicole’s photos, the passion and love was so real that they made it easy to capture their joy.

This wedding was relaxed and full of emotions, we laughed along with the speeches and cried during the father daughter dance, what an honour it was to share in Mike and Nicole’s day. A huge thank you to our second shooter Jeffrey Chan Tin .

A Miracle of Love – Outdoor Maternity Session from Emm & Clau

There is something special about photographing a pregnant mom-to-be. Not only is the magic of anticipating the new arrival exciting and full of love, but the strength expressed through her is priceless.  Lavinia is a passionate and lovely mother, and her pregnancy story almost moved us to tears. As a petite mom-to-be, she was unsure if she’d ever be blessed with children, but her experience showed us that miracles do happen and every child is a precious gift from God.  The emotional, spiritual, and physical strength Lavinia gained through her pregnancy is truly inspiring. This beautiful maternity session photographed by the talented Emm & Clau is filled with amazing creativity where beauty can be found in every single detail. Join us as we share this beautiful, heartwarming, and fun maternity story!

A Miracle of Love – Outdoor Maternity Session from Emm & Clau

Pregnancy story

Lavinia: “I have gotten a man child with the help of the LORD” (Genesis 4:1) This was my experience through pregnancy – children are a Gift from God.

Because I am petite, many people told me that I had to gain weight in order to have a baby one day. These words had a bad impact on me as I started to believe them. I used to ask myself, will I not be able to have a child when we want one? But a miracle happened.  In April 2013, I got pregnant, right as we planned!

During my pregnancy,  I felt stronger as a woman, spiritually, emotionally and physically, and others around me could feel it too. I was a very happy mom-to-be, energetic and full of enthusiasm.  It was a miracle for me to see and feel how a new life is growing in me.

In January 2014, I gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby boy, named Naum. I was only 1m taller than him! I am truly overwhelmed. It is a privilege and a holy gift to be a mom!

Creativity and personal touch

Emm & Clau: Lavinia &Teo got married in on June 20th, 2009, and they recently started working in the decorations field for events. This came handy for sure, with all the props we used for our photo session.  We planned everything a few weeks before the shoot.  Lavinia custom made her outfits and she even wore a dress her mom had when she was pregnant with her!

The photo session includes 3 different looks: classic, fun, and romantic.

Thoughts from the mom-to-be

Lavinia: We’ve always loved working with Emm and Clau, they are the kind of photographers that make you feel very close and comfortable. This photo session made me feel really special – me and my belly were the center of attention.

We loved the location and we were surprised to have such a beautiful warm weather in the Autumn (in Romania it gets pretty cold). The atmosphere was relaxed, with lots of laughter and positive energy. We wish that day never ended! And as always, I loved the result!

Thoughts from the photographer

Emm & Clau: There are so many things we love about this photoshoot – the beautiful couple, perfect natural light, lovely autumn colors, sweet props, and the creative ideas!  We’ve worked with Lavinia &Teo a few times since we started our photography career, and we really enjoy working with this adorable couple.

Vibrant Urban Wedding in Los Angeles with Photos by Jeff Newsom – Sonia and Vince

When newlyweds Sonia and Vince began planning their Los Angeles wedding, they had the perfect vision inspired by the city they hold dear. They wanted to capture the “urban, thriving, and vibrant” atmosphere of LA – and they certainly succeeded! Wedding photographer Jeff Newsom , whose work on Sonia and Vince’s wedding earned him a place in Junebug’s 2013’s Best of the Best Wedding Collection , captured every touching moment and all the details of the day.

The Design: Our wedding was inspired by our love of growing up and living in Los Angeles; we felt that SmogShoppe represents everything that is beautiful about the city — urban, thriving, and vibrant. I’m also attracted to bright colors and floral prints– which softened the venue’s concrete and masculine space. Special and unique details include bright floral print bridesmaid dresses, a standout head table dressed with a lace, sparkly, white linen layered over a coral-colored linen, vintage cans for centerpiece containers, a topography chalkboard sign for the bar hand drawn by Vince, and a Claire Pettibone dress with a floral lace illusion back detail.

The Moments: Sonia – I have two favorite moments: (1) Saying our vows. We wrote them ourselves and did not share beforehand, but they were both surprisingly similar and we both referenced the same line from one of our favorite songs. Our guest laughed and cried with us — it was special! (2) My second favorite moment was meeting Vince’s grandmother for the first time. She was so lovely and sweet!

Vince – My favorite moment was my first look at Sonia in her wedding dress. Her dress was not only stunning, but it was also my first time seeing her all day. The anticipation of walking down the aisle, coupled with the sound of her shoes coming down the steps did very little to dampen some pre-wedding jitters — it was worth the wait!

The Photography: Jeff Newsom was perhaps the easiest decision we made while planning our wedding. His artistic vision is unique to his photos, and we felt he was the only photographer who could really capture the theme we were hoping to achieve. The best thing about working with Jeff is how comfortable he made us feel in front of a camera. The hardest thing about working with Jeff is choosing which photos to hang on our wall because there are simply too many amazing shots to choose from!

The Advice: Be confident with your ideas and vision for your wedding. Listen to input from others, but trust your gut instincts. Our parents were initially not on board with the idea of having our wedding in a former car shop, with non-matching linens and chairs, family-style dinner service, etc. But we tried to include them in our planning as much as possible, and we eventually won them over with our version of a perfect wedding.
