Wedding design goals

From the bride (Karyn): As most would agree weddings are designed to represent the couple, this was definitely our goal as we set out to plan and design our wedding! Right from the night of the proposal we had been dreaming up our magical wedding and brainstorming ideas.

The perfect venue

Karyn: The very first venue we visited ended up being the only place we needed to see. From the moment we stepped onto Ruthven’s property – we were sold! From the open fields, to the cobblestone coach house and the surrounding old stone walls, this location had us grinning from ear to ear.

Romantic ceremony

Karyn: I had my own vision for the church from the very beginning. As a photographer myself, and someone who tries to do things a little differently, my vision was to hang hundreds of rose pedals from the ceiling of the church.  After the ceremony we were eager to get back inside the church and start taking pictures underneath the rose petals.

Fun & fresh cocktail hour

Karyn: Without being able to visit with our guests directly after the ceremony for a traditional receiving line, it was very important to us that we made time in our schedule for the day to enjoy a cocktail hour with our family and friends.  My sister-in-law co-owns a snow cone company called Sweet Ice , so we were more than happy to have them there to serve fresh fruit snow cones to our guests and us!

Stylish attire

Karyn: For the cocktail hour I wanted to have bit more of a fun look to my Vera Wang dress so I added one of Vera’s bows to bring a more fashion forward look to my dress. As well, I also switched from my traditional veil to a fresh – flower headpiece to match the rest of my bridesmaids.

I really love fashion and wanted to have a unique look for my bridesmaids. I had so many ideas and wasn’t sure if I could pull off this look, but with the help of Jean’s Flower Shop in Hamilton; my bridesmaids were able to have full crowns of flowers to wear along with their blush pink flowing dresses and cute little boots! As for my groom, he has been a bowtie guy since we met and could have none other for his groomsmen.

Magical reception

Karyn: Niche catering served our delicious dinner and our whimsical cake was made by the groom’s cousin Tiffany Melfi of “ Miss Beauty Baker ”.  To cap things off we decided to have our first dance under a beautiful gazebo on the grounds of Ruthven Park.

The day felt like it was out of a movie and was truly magical for us. White Photographie captured it perfectly and represented our style through every photo. They allowed me to express my photo ideas as well and were so accommodating to our needs. We couldn’t have been happier!

I can never get enough of the whimsical floral crown look for a bride wanting to embrace natural beauty for her wedding day. This woody, Pacific Northwest inspired crown was created by the ever-so-talented McKenzie Powell Floral and Event Design and photographed by Ryan Flynn Photography . McKenzie used pieres, viburnum berries, a few small blue thistle, and leucadendron – all flowers that would hold up well for an extended period of time. “They could have been made a day before-hand and still looked great the next day.” So smart, and so lovely for a wedding!

Rustic Vancouver Wedding from Nadia Hung Photography

Sometimes a wedding has the power to really fill you up with love and joy as you stare in complete awe at its beautiful images. A sweet wedding with the perfect dose of heartwarming moments and personalized details.  Ksena & Kevin’s wedding is definitely one of these special days full of darling details and smiling faces. The love-filled moments, captured by the talented Nadia Hung Photography , created a visual story that truly touched our hearts.  Join us as we share Ksenia & Kevin’s lovely wedding story.

The love story

From the bride: We met officially at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 2006, I offered to share a table at Starbucks with Kevin and a friend, and the two continued their conversation while I read my book, with neither party disturbing the other. This was our first contact.

Months later, Kevin initiated a conversation with me at the Morris and Helen Belkin Gallery, whereupon my first response was, “I like your pink hair“. In retrospect, we had noticed each other for a long while before the conversation started, and it would continue for another few years before we officially started dating.

During this time, the relationship hinged itself on long walks around Vancouver, visits to the Vancouver Art Gallery, and dialogues on a variety of books and authors, such as Camus, Beckett, and the Sandman, among others. We started dating at the end of our longest walk, in 2009.

Wedding designs

Bride & Groom: The wedding did not have a specific theme, but rather drew on our interests and aesthetics. We have a tendency to lean towards the rustic element, hence the milk jars, wine crates, and garden flowers. We both also have quite a collection of books and appreciate the materiality of the typed word (one of us is a librarian by training, the other an artist), so the centerpieces contain books and a typewriter functions as the guest book.

Wedding planning

Bride & Groom: The wedding had roughly 80 guests and the planning was spread out over a year, with the venue booked over a year in advance. From the many places to choose from, we picked the venue that was representative of how we met and what we were passionate about, full of old books and located directly on the university campus where we studied.

The best part of the wedding was not any single moment, but rather a continuous torrent of joy, realizations of the fact that we are now married and surrounded by all the people who we love, and how this sensation repeated itself in a surreal haze throughout the evening.

About Nadia Hung Photography

Nadia Hung: Each wedding is a timeless experience that blends intricate details with the unique personalities of individual couples. I photograph weddings because I love to tell a story by capturing the beauty of a wedding day, the unique location, the intricate details and the interactions between a bride and groom and of course, their loved ones.

I shoot with film because its timeless look and feel produces exceptional images. I believe that through film, and its potential for greater depth of lighting, color and composition, I am able to make each wedding a work of art. And through my personal vision – capturing beauty in the details of the ordinary – to create a unique and complete picture of the wedding. My goal is that years from now, even your friends and loved ones who could not attend the wedding will be able to feel the emotions of the day through the images I create.

13 Beautiful Naked Wedding Cakes

“Naked” cakes are becoming increasingly popular with couples looking to have a simple or rustic wedding!  A naked cake is an unfrosted, classic sponge cake layered to perfection.  They can be beautifully topped with lush flowers, filled with fresh fruits, or decorated with personalized designs or toppers.

Naked cakes don’t have the fondant icing or traditional details that you would normally expect on a wedding cake. This allows you to see the inside cake layers and all the goodness in between.  Naked cakes are ideal for those who aren’t fans for frosting, and those who wish to offer something that truly stand apart from traditional wedding cakes.  If that’s you, why not consider a naked cake for your celebration?
