Michigan Wedding at Witt’s Inn by Kelly Sweet Photography – Betsy and Andrew

Betsy and Andrew infused their wedding day with so much personality and sweet style, that even a downpour couldn’t shake their happiness! Kelly Sweet’s beautiful photos captured all of the pretty gowns accessorized with boots and denim; the fruits of Andrew’s wood-working labor; and woodland accents everywhere; but more importantly she captured the couple’s unstoppable smiles.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Andrew and I are both artistic, natural, and down-to-earth, so we knew we wanted something outdoors in the country. I love succulents and moss so I wanted to incorporate that into the decor. Andrew loves wood-working, so he designed and made a pergola for us to get married under.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? When we saw that it was going to rain all day, we decided to do everything in the barn. Getting married by candle light was so intimate and romantic – I don’t think we would have gotten that feel if we were outside. Our favorite moments were seeing each other for the first time, exchanging vows, and our first dance to our favorite song.

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Don’t think that everything will go according to plan. There might be some unexpected changes. Keep your cool because you don’t want to look back and remember being stressed out on your wedding day.

Whimsical Schoolhouse Theme Wedding From Bellalu Photography – Mariel and George

I’ve spent the last few evenings helping my two sweet little boys fill out their Valentine’s for their classmates, and it’s put me in a schoolhouse kinda mood. Remember when the holiday was all about stickers, silly jokes, and lots of candy hearts? With that in mind, today’s wedding seemed like a perfect fit for the day before Valentine’s Day. Mariel and George’s wedding was filled with sweet schoolhouse references, lots of silly jokes, and plenty of sweet treats. The newlyweds thought of everything! From the cute pictures of Grandma in the dunce cap; to the high school counselor’s office-themed wedding programs; sack lunches and milk cartons for a late night treat; the bake sale dessert bar; and even cootie catchers; every detail was creative and thoughtful, and beautifully captured by Bellalu Photography !

What three adjectives best describe your wedding day? Sooooo us, School, DIY

Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? School-yard crush! Our colors were orange and grey. Mariel is a school teacher and George is a man-child, so it worked out well. Elements from our childhood were incorporated throughout the wedding (i.e. photos of us from each grade level were on the tables, with our favorite books from that grade). Also, Mariels junior high students made the 1,000 cranes that hung from the arbor. The invitations were report cards with individual messages from the teacher written to each guest. It also included a library card with the dates of our love story stamped on it and specific events from our relationship. The RSVP card was a library card that the guests used to tell us their story. These were then displayed at the reception.

Our favors were cookies and milk, and our signature drinks were called Georges In-School Suspension and Mariels Tart n Tardy to reflect our, ahem, interesting childhood! The cake topper was a huge rice crispie apple covered in fondant (apple for the teacher).

The entire wedding ceremony was written by us with help from the officiant (Georges grandpa, who, by the way, had never officiated a wedding! He did an amazing job). We did rock-paper-scissors to see who would read their vows first and we sealed the vows with a pinky swear. Also, the reading for the ceremony was done by Mariels cousin (who was only 7 years-old) and was from the book George and Martha. Our photo op area had a stool with a dunce cap for guests to wear. In it, there was also a chalk board that had I will not get drunk at this wedding written over and over again (like a school punishment).

Where did you choose to hold your wedding, and how did the location influence your decor decisions? Nestldown because of the unique setting and the beauty. We kept the decorations to a minimum to avoid clashing with the natural beauty of the space. Also, we loved the outdoor ceremony location in front of the pond!

Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding? Tell us what you loved about it! We made everything ourselves with paper from Paper Source , our Macs, and an inkjet printer. Everything was personalized since we designed (okay, copied) it ourselves. Our favorite was probably the invitations though, because it was really fun writing personal messages to each guest. We also really liked our program. It was titled So Youve Been Invited to a Wedding and kind of sounded like one of those So Youve Contracted a Disease pamphlets (yeah, were kind of sick). It told people what to do once they found out that they had become a wedding guest.

Most importantly, we had fun. We didnt take anything too seriously and were able to relax and have a great time. The wedding really reflected our personalities and allowed us to be silly. I mean, come on, I rocked a faux hawk instead of a veil!

Napa Valley Wedding at Auberge Du Soleil by Michèle Waite – Allison and Dan

Allison and Dan love California almost as much as they love each other, so they held their stunning Napa Valley wedding at Auberge du Soleil – a magical spot with incredible views, romantic spaces, and the perfect blend of rustic elegance. Nancy Liu Chin’s beautiful floral designs thoughtfully complemented the venue in every way, and photographer Michèle M. Waite perfectly captured every moment. One detail I particularly love? Allison’s wedding day seamstress she had on hand to ensure the fashion was flawless. Heidi Johnson of Wedding De-Tailor ensured that every strap was hidden, every rumple was straightened, and not a speck of dust or lint was in sight. Love this brilliant idea!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Rustic glamour, intimate, and magical.

What was your wedding color palette? We wanted the gorgeous location in Napa Valley to speak for itself, so I chose colors and accents that lent an elegant, old-Hollywood glamour to the more rustic decor of the Auberge . We had silver linens with lots of mercury votives with tea-lights and used gray as an accent (bridesmaids dresses, groomsmens ties, striped straws). With that as a base, the flowers were a mix of ivory/cream and blush/peach with pops of burgundy to compliment wine country in autumn. The ribbon on the bouquets was burgundy along with Dans pocket square.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? It was important to us to infuse personal elements into our wedding so that it was a reflection of our style and relationship. We love California and wanted a destination wedding, so choosing Napa was a no-brainer! We wanted an intimate, California wedding with a glamorous and sophisticated edge, so the Auberge was the perfect location – intimate yet open, with a terrace overlooking Napa Valley. We brought in little touches to make it personal, including using wine bottles from Swanson, a local winery, as a guest book (people signed the bottles for our first, third and fifth anniversaries with metallic markers), and we had our logo printed on cocktail napkins for the cocktail hour. My maid of honor is a designer, so it was special for me to work with her to create the signs throughout the wedding, from the programs, to the menus to the Love is Sweet dessert sign.

We also transformed the terrace after the ceremony into a lounge area with café lights strung overhead, hurricanes with candles and sofas! It was a great way to cool off from dancing. Plus, the photo booth was out there!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? One of the most special moments from the day was when my brother sang You & I by Wilco as a surprise. It is such a fond memory we will cherish forever.

We also are so happy that we wrote our own vows. Our officiant was truly amazing and made our ceremony so personal and meaningful, and then to say our vows to each other – it was more special than we could have imagined. I thought it would be more nerve-wracking than it was – it was just fun! I am glad we opted to do that because I dont know that well have the chance to say those words to each other in front of all our loved ones again!

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Just have fun with it and dont over analyze every small detail. Trust that your vision will come together, and if you arent sure about what you want, ask a trusted friend or planner for help! Also, Pinterest is an amazing tool for brides. I had a shared Pinterest board with my florist, Nancy Liu Chin , that we used to narrow down the vision for the day.

Another thing I would recommend is hiring a day-of planner/assistant – Heidi, our wedding detailer, was awesome. She was on-site to press all the dresses on the day of and she really went above and beyond – I cant recommend her enough! She fixed buttons on my mother-in-laws dress, sewed bra straps in place, lint rolled and pressed the jackets, helped with my dress during pictures, washed my feet after the photos – I can go on and on! She was such an unexpected blessing but now that I look back, I couldnt have done it without her.

Last thing – as a destination bride, I know that you can do almost everything via phone or email, so dont go nuts making a gazillion appointments. It is literally the best day ever – enjoy it!

Roche Harbor Wedding by Laurel McConnell Photography – Lindsay and Abe

Roche Harbor Wedding by Laurel McConnell Photography – Lindsay and Abe

Oooooh, this is such a good one today! We love everything about Lindsay and Abe’s gorgeous San Juan Island wedding, from their team of talented wedding pros filled with some of our beloved Junebug members, to their fresh, preppy decor, the gorgeous scenery at Roche Harbor , and their romantic engagement story that inspired all their details. It’s just the epitome of sweet summer perfection, and Laurel McConnell’s beautiful photos captured it all!

Roche Harbor Wedding by Laurel McConnell Photography – Lindsay and Abe

Roche Harbor Wedding by Laurel McConnell Photography – Lindsay and Abe

The Goals: Our main goal was for everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves, but we also wanted the wedding to be representative of the two of us. Im big on details, so the little touches were definitely important to me as well.

Roche Harbor Wedding by Laurel McConnell Photography – Lindsay and Abe

The Vision: We wanted the overall look of the wedding to feel very Nantucket/Cape Cod, chic, and just a touch nautical.

We were engaged in Paris when Abe surprised me on the Pont des Arts bridge. I was there visiting a friend, and had no idea that he was coming! According to tradition, visitors attach padlocks on the bridge as a sign of undying love. Once I said YES, we left our padlock! To represent our engagement, we decided to give our reception a secret garden feel with locks and keys. Vintage keys were scattered amongst the cobblestone pathway to the aisle (for guests to take as they pleased) and a large decorative lock was placed on the entry to the garden. The locks and keys were also incorporated into some of the paper goods.

My mom and I also wanted to be sure and incorporate ribbons in the wedding (as were a little ribbon crazy). Ribbons hung from the back of each of the ceremony chairs, from shepherds hooks with lanterns that lined the walkway to the reception, and so on.

The Look: Keeping with the theme of the wedding, our attire was chic and classic. My wedding dress was simple with delicately layered fabric, but the Swarovski crystal sash I wore provided a rich, elegant touch. That day, my husband gave me a beautiful silver necklace with an anchor on it, and I gave him silver and navy cufflinks. The bridesmaids wore navy dresses, and all of the men wore Sperry Topsiders.

The Moments: Our first dance definitely stands out in my mind as one of the most special aspects of our wedding. We chose a fun, new song that hadnt become popular yet – Ho Hey by the Lumineers. Now, whenever our friends and family hear it, they tell us it reminds them of our wedding, which always brings a smile to our faces.

We also loved our food and beverages. Our guests quickly sucked down Roche Harbors amazing mojitos! And, I still remember entering our cocktail reception and seeing the fabulous oyster display on ice. From the get go, we decided to provide ice cream (from a local food truck) at the wedding instead of cake, as well as a custom toppings bar. We later decided to incorporate cake as well, but the ice cream was a huge hit!

Its hard to pinpoint one aspect of the wedding that surpassed the rest. Whether it be the stunning florals, paper goods, or other details; the ideal weather and scenery; or just having all of our friends and family with us to celebrate with us, we felt very blessed and loved everything about our wedding day.
