Beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Wedding by Dixie Pixel Photography – Andy and Regina

So, it could have been the Mumford and Sons and I was listening to while putting this post together (which is the PERFECT soundtrack for this one I might add!), but I think it’s all the joy that just leaps out the photos that made me get all misty eyed. First, Andy and Regina’s story is just so sweet – childhood friends who re-met years later and fell in love – and then you have the gorgeous Tennessee wedding setting, intimate gathering, and amazing talent of Tara Kneiser of Dixie Pixel Photography . The perfect recipe for a happy little tear fest! Go grab a tissue, start those tunes, and enjoy!

What were the top three priorities for you in planning your wedding? The photography was the first priority. I know it sounds strange, but Tara Kneiser of Dixie Pixel had photographed two couples I knew years prior to Andy and I even re-meeting, and I had fallen in love with her work. I always said that if I were to marry, she would be the one to capture it. Andy and I both grew up in homes where pictures are framed to cover every inch of available space, and we both enjoy looking through old albums our parents keep around. Photography is so important to me, because no matter how much time passes, there is a record of happiness and joy. I love that – I love the reminder a picture can bring.

The location was my second priority because I really wanted to marry in the same chapel where Andy and I got engaged in. But since my first priority was the photographer (and she has her own busy schedule) I had quite a time trying to figure out how to have both and not make people freeze – at one point I was looking at marrying in February, and the chapel has no heat or electricity. Andy and I changed the date a handful of times, and finally settled on September. And as luck would have it, Tara was available that day. After those two things lined up, I was the happiest bride-to-be.

The budget was the only other aspect of the wedding that Andy and I fought to stick with. There are so many things we want as a couple, that we could not justify spending all our savings on one day – we both agreed from the beginning that the entire planning process would be about the marriage, not the wedding. We decided on a ceremony with immediate family only, and that severely cut the budget for us. Luckily we are both long-term thinkers, so it was very easy for us not to stray from our original intentions.

What wedding traditions or cultural traditions did you incorporated into your wedding and what did they mean to you? Andy and I wrote our own vows to one another. We write each other random love notes from time to time, so I thought if we incorporated that into our ceremony, it would be even more special. Also, my two girlfriends, Mme. R and Mrs. S, both carried a diamond pin in their wedding bouquets of their new last name initial – sweetly, they gave me one to carry as well.

Were there any places where you broke the rules in your wedding planning? Why and how did you do that? I am so delighted over that fact that we set our own rule and then broke it! Andy and I decided on immediate family only for a number of reasons, but when it came time for invitations, it didnt work. The Flahertys are a couple that we and my family are friends with – so much so, that if I werent lucky enough to have my step-father walk me down the aisle, I would have asked Joe Flaherty to do so. He is like my father in so many ways, and I could not have imagined the day without having him there. Also, Andy asked his childhood friend, Jimmy, to marry us. It would not have been the perfect wedding if we hadn’t broken our own rule just a little!

What was your biggest wedding planning success? Our biggest wedding planning success was our friends and family. Andy and I joke that all we had to do was stand still and let everything fall perfectly into place – but that isnt exactly true. When we look back on it, and hear people talk about the behind-the-scenes events, we realize that our family and friends did an enormous amount to make sure we had everything we needed. My dress, hair and makeup, the bakery, the reception, the after-party and celtic music – all the things that went into making it the perfect day happened because our friends and family helped so much. When you plan a wedding in two months, you take whatever help you can get – but in this case, they gave me miracles.

What was the most important thing that you learned through the wedding planning process and what would you tell other brides-to-be? Throughout the engagement and wedding planning, Andy and I saw eye to eye on a lot of issues – the main one, and it is important enough to repeat, is to make it about the marriage, not the wedding. Whatever plan you originally build will be perfect for you, but the wedding snowball is big, and it is frighteningly fast. It wont always be easy to follow through with, but if you make a strong plan, the end result will be exactly what you want, and probably under budget.

Peach, Apricot, and White Wedding at Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club – Megan and Scott

Megan and Scott’s wedding day was as dreamy as could be. They chose to be married in San Diego’s oldest church, The Mission Basilica de Alcala , and celebrated at Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club . Both venues have an old-world vibe that fit the couple’s love for all things vintage to a tee. Their lavish florals included peach garden roses and white orchids as well as fresh green vines that draped from the chandeliers. The overall effect was a romantic, magical garden!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Romantic, enchanting and whimsical

What was your wedding color palette? Peach, apricot, white and ivory

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Ive always wanted a very romantic and feminine garden style for our wedding. I also adore vintage items, so it was important to us that they were incorporated in our wedding. Our wonderful event and floral designer, Aileen of Karen Tran Florals, brought our vision to life and was able to create a dreamy, lush garden ambiance! We choose The Mission Basilica De Alcala for our ceremony because we loved the fact that its one of the oldest churches in San Diego. It has the old world charm that we love, along with gorgeous rustic pews and cobblestone floors. We selected the Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club for our reception because we just loved how the property is reminiscent of a craftsman-style home. Our reception didnt feel like a ballroom in a hotel – it was so warm and inviting, and an absolute dream.

For the decor, it was all in the details! Aileen incorporated custom brooches, imported lace and vintage tea tins from Europe, and vintage pewter vessels for some of the vases. The club also had large gold chandeliers in the dining area, and we decided to cover them in greenery so guests would really experience the feeling of entering a lush, enchanted garden!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? We loved every moment that we dedicated to planning our wedding, and we loved our wonderful team that created this magical day for us. One of the moments that I loved the most was when my wedding planner, Wynn Austin , helped sneak me up into the choir box at the church right before the ceremony began. Even the choir director commented that in over 38 years he has never had a bride in the choir box! I was able to look down and see a birds eye view of the beautiful church and the florals. Also, I was able to see Scott at the altar waiting for me, along with our closest friends and families. It was my one quiet moment to take everything in before I walked down the aisle. I have to say though, we truly treasure all the memories of our wedding. It was our dream wedding and we will cherish the experience for the rest of our lives.

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? Enjoy all of the planning aspects and dont let it overwhelm you. Never lose sight of whats important. Infuse your personality into everything and enjoy your wedding day because the day goes by faster than youll ever anticipate!

Elegant Chicago Wedding at Crystal Gardens on Navy Pier – Morgan and Tim

Elegant Chicago Wedding at Crystal Gardens on Navy Pier – Morgan and Tim

Morgan and Tim had just the right blend of formal (the STUNNING Crystal Garden at Navy Pier and oh-so-elegant wedding day fashions) and fun (great music, comfy footwear, and of course…champagne!). The day turned out to be a joyful celebration made all the better by the talented professionals that brought their vision to life. The couple couldn’t be happier with their photos by Miller + Miller Photography that captured every detail!

The Goals: It was most important to create an environment that was classy, yet one that also made everyone feel welcome and ready to let loose. This was important to us because we wanted our family and friends to feel comfortable and happy at our wedding. We wanted to convey our joy by making sure nobody felt uptight or too formal. We started that feeling by serving champagne to all guests who entered for the ceremony, having unique and funny stories in the wedding program, and finishing with great music. All of these components really set the right tone of the wedding.

The Vision: Crystal Gardens is a beautiful indoor botanical garden under a one-acre atrium, and little bit like a Miami hotel…with large indoor palm trees, fountains that “leapfrog” across the walkways, and the ferris wheel of Navy Pier as the backdrop. Taking that into consideration, we thought adding shades of white and lots of crystals would be gorgeous and formal. We also added a touch of light slate blue, which accentuate the white. Our classic, formal, yet airy vibe translated to chandeliers, candles and a lot of white flowers. Since we wanted to do something non-traditional at the reception, we went with a sweets table instead of a cake and a basket of flip flops for sore feet. In addition to the flip flops, the traditional Chicago hot dog and french fry meal later in the evening kept the guests going!

The Look: The fashion was elegant with a hint of vintage. I loved the low back and the gorgeous flowing train of my dress from Justina McCaffrey . I used a vintage looking belt, my mothers earrings for the ceremony, vintage drop style earrings for the reception. Tim wore a very formal, classic black and white tux. Since Tim is a big guy, the thicker bow tie looked amazing. The bridesmaids wore full-length gowns in slate. Each bridesmaid chose between four styles to find the one that was most complementary.

The Moments: Besides marrying my favorite person, some of my favorite moments were seeing the decor, listening to the wonderful music throughout the night, and seeing all of our loved ones having fun and getting to know one another. We also felt that we successfully hired an amazing team that brought our vision to life!

The Pros: Please visit Morgan and Tim’s page in our Real Wedding Library for all of the details on their great wedding team!

Indoor and Outdoor Citrus Inspired Wedding Decor

Indoor and Outdoor Citrus Inspired Wedding Decor

Bright, citrus-y wedding color palettes are an easy fit for outdoor weddings, but what about when you want to bring them inside? I love this inspiration photo shoot created by Urbane Montage Events because she and her amazing team of collaborators tackle just that question, and show us two versions of creative citrus wedding decor – perfect for day and for night! Check it out!

Indoor and Outdoor Citrus Inspired Wedding Decor

Indoor and Outdoor Citrus Inspired Wedding Decor

From the designer, Faith O. Folayan of Urbane Montage Events : What’s more fun than a fresh, modern, simple citrus-infused celebration in the city? We decided we wanted to showcase ways in which both an outdoor space and an indoor space can be transformed into the perfect modern wedding by incorporating two distinct looks: “day” and “evening.”

With all of this in mind, we gathered a team of talented artists for a modern citrus-styled shoot to inspire brides to embrace bold, bright, and fresh colors. This inspiration shoot includes the color palette of tangerine and chartreuse, accompanied by slate. The palette is complemented with a clean, crisp, elegant design with fresh oranges and limes incorporated into the shoot. The design elements of the “day” included milk glass pieces and white chiavari chairs while the “evening” included glass pieces and clear chiavari chairs: all in the heart of Minneapolis!

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts recently opened their doors to hosting weddings. We were thrilled at the opportunity to feature the museum in our shoot. The MIA’s Target Park was the perfect setting for our “day” look and the Reception Hall of the Target Wing fit the setting for our “evening” look.

From the flawless paper production of Gretchen Berry Designs to the effortless design of the dessert table by Cocoa & Fig , and the breathtaking blooms of Sadie’s Couture Floral & Event Styling , the shoot was a hit. Vera Wang Fall 2013 Wedding Dresses – Bridal Market

Vera Wang – just the name evokes drama, elegance, couture. After the dark and moody wedding dresses for spring, the Fall 2013 Vera Wang collection is a return to feminine, romantic confections. And the shapes? Big (I mean voluminous in some cases!) ballgowns that are amazing after amazing layer of of organza and tulle. Many of the bodices featured a very traditional corset shape that create a stunning contrast to the dramatic skirts and intricate lace piecing that embellish the dresses.
