Maria’s elegant and classic style, the sophisticated color palette, and that amazing setting all made for gorgeous photos of their romantic wedding day.

The Goals: Both Derek and Maria said that their main priority was to have their family and friends in attendance to celebrate and enjoy their wedding. Beyond that, they wanted something elegant, romantic, and unique at the most beautiful location, so they chose Vizcaya Museum and Gardens . They used a liberal officiant willing to combine their Baptist and Catholic beliefs into a ceremony perfectly tailored to them.

The Design: Maria said – Our wedding was breathtaking…memorable…warm! We wanted to have an elegant and classic event. We did not have a specific theme for the wedding or reception, but our best decision was to have only our siblings as the only members of our bridal party. The wedding day and days leading up tend to be very stressful so only having family around made things easier and more intimate. Later at the reception, we had a short ballet show with a dancer that also played an electric violin. This show consisted of about 10 dances that entertained our guests using a somewhat alternative interpretation of classical music. During the last hour of the wedding we had the “hora loca”. This time consisted of our guests finding and wearing a variety of hats, masks, headpieces, and props enhanced by the participation of multiple costumed dancers to a variety of Spanish music. Our goal was to have the party end with a BANG!

The Look: I wanted something elegant and timeless. I didn’t want to wear something I would cringe about when looking back. I loved the detail of the stoned headband and my AMAZING bouquet. I was so happy to be able to wear my mother’s earrings that I have always said I would wear to my wedding, that she received as a gift from my dad about 10 years ago.

The Moments: The ceremony stands out to both of us the most. We could not believe how beautiful our ceremony site was, with all of our guests there, sitting in complete silence taking in the moment even before the ceremony began. Our toasts were also very memorable as our siblings and parents were able to share with the guests what we believed to be the best qualities we each hoped to bring to our marriage, currently and in the future.

Our first look was one of the most sentimental moments of the entire event. Our parents traveled to Vizcaya from the Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove as we wanted them to be able to watch our first look. During our first opportunity to see each other, Maloman was able to capture our parents watching us from above. It was incredibly emotional and exciting to see each other all dressed up and preparing to take this important next step in our relationship in the presence of the most important people in our lives.

Elegant and Rustic Wedding at HammerSky Vineyard – Beverly and Banjo

Ooooohhhh! I love this one! Beverly and Banjo describe their nuptials at the spectacularly scenic HammerSky Vineyard as a rustic wedding, but it is just so much more! The sunny, soft shades of yellow mixed with the palest smoke grey was sophisticated. The gorgeous summery flowers were lush and romantic, and the sunset over the vineyard, captured by Mike Larson , perfectly ethereal. All of it combined? Elegant, natural, and oh-so-happy!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding day? Rustic, Memorable, Amazing

Was there a decor theme that ran through your wedding? What was the inspiration for that particular idea and how did it reflect you as a couple? We definitely wanted to go rustic and have a homey family backyard affair with a few romantic notes. The exposed long dark wooden tables set the tone for the whole theme and brought the look of the reception area together. We aspired for a relaxed affair with our closest family and friends.

What were some of the different ways you used decor elements to create the beautiful, cohesive event you were envisioning? We used the color palette of grey and yellow to create a fresh and lively garden event in the midst of the vibrant vineyard. We used dark wood, bright flowers with a lot of succulents, and billy balls! We also added a last minute accessory of chandeliers to our ceremony which created a romantic backdrop along with the amazing view of the HammerSky Vineyards . The long market string lights that went across the reception table gave it an intimate feel and much needed ambient lighting. Paired with the spotlights around the vineyard that lit up after sundown, they made it feel like an enchanting event.

Where did you choose to hold your wedding, and how did the location influence your decor decisions? We chose HammerSky Vineyards because it was such a relaxed, quaint, unpretentious, and rustic vineyard location. It is what a vineyard should be! A barn and the beautiful rolling hills with old oak trees as a backdrop was the catalyst for the décor. Of course, this was all highlighted by a perfect sunset that rested along the rolling hills.

Beverly is from Southern California and Banjo from Northern California so the area of Paso Robles, in the middle of the state, was perfect for our destination wedding. We made our wedding a weekend event for our friends and family. A day of wine tasting in the country side to relax was just the perfect prelude to our wedding day. Onsite at the vineyard is a century old farmhouse that we stayed in with some of our close friends for the wedding weekend.

Looking back, do you have a favorite project or successful decor idea from your wedding? Tell us what you loved about it! It was definitely a huge project finding our wedding team since this was a destination wedding, but in the end we found the best people in the area who made us so comfortable in our wedding choices. Because of our amazing team we had such great response from our guests. They haven’t stopped talking about how relaxed they were with the great company, beautiful vineyard, tasty eats, soulful music, awesome sunset, delicious wines and the all-around charming experience. Our photographer, Mike Larson , and his team along with videographer Joel Vanz , are the best in what they do. They captured our special day and the unforgettable moments leading up to it.

Our favorite project was the time spent together with Beverlys parents at Paso Robles early in the year on a rainy day to sample the cakes, taste the wine from different vineyards and pair them with Chef Charlies delicious creations. Food is our passion, and wine is our obsession, so it was a perfect day.

Rustic Grand Teton National Park Elopement – Laura and Greg

Laura and Greg’s elopement in breathtaking Grand Teton National Park reflected not just their love for each other, but also their shared passion for the outdoors, snowy mountain peaks and sparkling rivers. They brought Dustin Prickett of Sunglow Photography along for the days leading up to their ceremony, to document each memorable moment, the striking landscape, and even a moose! We’re so lucky to get a glimpse of their intimate, romantic adventure, and if you are inspired to plan your own trip to the Grand Tetons, check back later today for another post on some of the local highlights of this favorite honeymoon destination!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Intimate, adventurous, minimalist

How did you select your wedding location? What drew you to the Tetons? We first traveled to the Tetons in the summer of 2008, after we had been dating for a little over a year, during an extended seven-week backpacking trip to various national parks. As soon as we decided to elope, we knew that it would be reminiscent and meaningful to go back to one of places that we visited during this trip, and we settled on Grand Teton National Park. In the Tetons, we remembered hiking through some of the most picturesque mountain landscapes and were amazed by the beauty of the snow-capped mountains, expansive rivers and lakes, and of course perfect back country camp sites. We also knew that the near-by town of Jackson would provide ample choices of hotels, restaurants, and other entertainment.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? In the end, we both wanted a big day that was meaningful and romantic, yet simple and low-stress. For us, an elopement ceremony achieved exactly this. The specific spot we chose at Schwabachers Landing also provided an ideal natural venue – one that fit our personalities and rendered a fitting backdrop. And though we had envisioned how the ceremony might go, many of the smaller details fell into place the day before, or even the moments before, the ceremony. For example, when we decided that our ideal spot for the ceremony was on a small peninsula reachable only across a small stream, Greg and the photographer built an aisle bridge out of logs found along the trail, which we all had to cross to get to this perfect spot. Seeing details come together in this way not only made it very special for us in the moment, but made for great pictures too! It was this simplicity and flexibility that made the day feel so uniquely us.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Because our wedding was an elopement and did not have an audience, we were so happy we decided to bring our photographer along to document the first two days of our trip rather than having just a few hours of photography on our wedding day. Our photos really tell our wedding story, from arriving at the airport, to signing the marriage license, to the ceremony and the post-wedding hike. This was very important to us because we wanted to have a way to share our special day with our loved ones. We both agree that a favorite memory from the ceremony was when we read our vows that we had written to each other. The lack of distractions leading up to and during the ceremony enabled us to really focus on each other, and our big moment!

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? I would tell any bride not to get overwhelmed by other peoples expectations for your wedding. Focus on the things that are most important to you and your new life with your love, and dont sweat the small stuff!
