A traditional approach with an emphasis on family, this classically elegant Texas wedding celebrated the romance between couple, Camille and Todd, and their future lives together. What were the top three priorities for you in planning your wedding? Keeping Christ at the center, having fun, and keeping it classy. I wanted it to be simple, yet elegant.

What wedding traditions or cultural traditions did you incorporated into your wedding and what did they mean to you? I tend to swing towards a more traditional approach with most things, so I wanted to get married in a church. The church was built by my great-grandfather and was where my sister got married. It was important to me that I get married somewhere meaningful to my family. During the service my cousin played the violin with organ music in the background.

I like wedding traditions such as something old, something borrowed, something blue, and something new. I have just always thought it was fun to incorporate those customs into a wedding. For my something borrowed and old, I wore my mother’s pearl and diamond ring. My mother and I have an amazing and blessed relationship and I couldn’t imagine going through the day without something special of hers. Family is a top priority to me, so involving as much as my family and his family in the celebration was necessary.

Were there any places where you broke the rules in your wedding planning? Why and how did you do that? During the planning process, I was very laid back. I can give thanks to Emily Youngblood and my mother for helping me with that! Pretty much the only rule I broke was that my groom and I took pictures before the wedding. This really eased all of my nerves and made it quicker and easier to get out of the church after the wedding. We really love dancing and wanted to celebrate with all of our family and friends as soon as we could!

What was your biggest wedding planning success? My biggest success was that the “end product” turned out perfectly. I wanted the classic look of the wedding to carry through from the dresses, ceremony and to the reception. One of my main focuses was to keep everything coordinated. The church was traditional, so I wanted a traditional service. We did candle lightings, scripture readings, prayer and even had the most angelic of voices sing Ave Maria.  I also incorporated lace into everything – my garter, dress and even my bridal cake. The Colonial Country Club has colonial style architecture, so the cake was decorated in a way that really captured its elegance. Additionally, I wanted the reception to be filled with class and romance. The flowers, lighting and drapery really encompassed that vision and brought everything together.

Also, I could not have chosen a better band. The way they made the entire reception come to life was absolutely incredible. I saw people dance that I never thought would! They are THAT good! They were the icing on the cake and brought an element to the reception that would not have existed without them!

What was the most important thing that you learned through the wedding planning process and what would you tell other brides-to-be? Hire a wedding planner or coordinator! I learned that the planning of the wedding is really what you make it. You can either make it stressful or one of the most enjoyable things you have ever done. Dont get me wrong, there are stressful moments. But keep in mind…in the end your wedding day is ONE day out of the rest of your life with the man of your dreams. Love every moment of planning, but dont get wrapped up in the details that ultimately don’t matter. The most important piece is to understand the covenant you are about to make and know how important that is. Spend time with your spouse-to-be and get to know him more as you continue your way down the journey.

Also, one of my most favorite parts about planning was that I got to do it all with my mother. She helped me through the entire exciting process, along with Emily, our wedding planner. Doing this with my mother was so important to me, andit was really an honor to have her be involved as much as she was! Since family is so important to me, I wanted to have my sisters, Raime, Amy, and Anna be a part of it as much as they could. They live all around the US with their own families, so it was difficult to have them be at everything. However, they showered me with love, encouragement, blessings and prayer during the entire process. Ultimately, I would definitely make it a priority to keep your family involved, even if it is just through prayers. It meant so much to me that I knew they were always available to help me.

Romantic Rome, Italy Destination Wedding – Marisol and Richard

Romantic Rome, Italy Destination Wedding – Marisol and Richard

Marisol and Richard met in Rome in 2006 during a study abroad program, where they lived together in a “Real World” style apartment with 10 roommates and Rome at their fingertips. According to Marisol, Rome was “sensory overload to say the least but we soon found time to get to know each other as we were able to explore the city over the next two months!” They traipsed the city and the region together, and Rick kissed Mari for the first time at the Pantheon, a tradition that they love to continue to this day. When it came time to plan their nuptials, choosing a Rome wedding, where their romance began, was the perfect choice!

Romantic Rome, Italy Destination Wedding – Marisol and Richard

From Marisol: The first week of our engagement began our planning process. We tossed around a few ideas on location but definitely had our hearts set on Rome. What an amazing way to share how and where we met with family and friends! Before we committed to this destination wedding, we took a poll to see just how many people might be interested in making the journey. The location of the ceremony was important to us but more so, was the hope that people we love could attend. Luckily, we had enough interest to proceed with the planning!

First off, we discussed hiring a wedding planner which involved searching the Internet for the best match. Brenda with Italia Celebrations came along in our searches and we immediately had a good feeling about her. Her resume, references and email promptness won us over as we continued planning together. Because our wedding was so far away in distance and time, we decided right away that we wanted to play a big role in the designed items in our wedding. With both of us being architects, it was only natural and extremely rewarding to design and print our own invitations, programs, menus, escort cards, place cards, and table numbers. We were drawn to an unconventional color scheme of red wines, pinks, purples, and brown, with a small touch of yellow to brighten up the palette. The scheme felt very romantic, sophisticated and Italian – perhaps the red wine tones did it!

When the big day finally came, it was truly more than we could have dreamed! We had an elegant ceremony with a unique getaway car, a very dramatic, yet intimate reception setting, and a beautiful ambiance to the entire day!

Having a destination wedding, we knew we wanted to make our traveling guests feel welcome and connected to the event. We had welcome bags delivered to each guest which included Prosecco, champagne flutes, Italian chocolate bars, cookies, welcome note, itinerary, and personalized Rome walking tour map including some of our favorite spots around the city. Two days before the wedding, we organized a group tour of the Vatican Museums and Saint Peters. Not only was it a wonderful learning experience but it also gave guests a chance to get to know each other before the wedding.

In addition to our wonderful wedding day, we had planned far in advance, to attend the Papal Audience with a special blessing and seating area for newly weds. It was a once in a lifetime experience, and what fun to wear your wedding attire in front of thousands of onlookers!

Incorporating Local Flowers Into Your Wedding Decor – Tips From Flora Nova Design

Today we are featuring the stunning work of design talent Christiane Zweifler of Flora Nova Floral and Event Design , her take on wedding flowers, and how to incorporate local blooms into your wedding design, in Seattle and far beyond! Christiane’s beautiful work never ceases to amaze me; she is a master at blending colors and textures, and she can do it equally well in modern, romantic, natural, or sleek designs. One of my favorite things that she does is take local Northwest blooms and make them look fresh and new! Planning a wedding, but not in the Northwest? Christiane has some great ideas for how you can use local materials wherever you call home!

What do you find most inspirational in the Pacific Northwest? The beauty of Northwest nature is quite inspirational to me: for example, a walk through the Northwest forest in the fall, or a stroll through a city park in the spring brings out my admiration for nature each and every time! The lush greens and beautiful local blooms inspire my designs in many ways. Whether it is moss covered lichen branches combined with orchids, or ferns with lush garden roses, my creative combinations can change spontaneously depending on what I see around me.

What are your favorite local materials to use? Oh, I must say I have a long list of favorite local materials! Our relatively cool and wet climate offers an abundance of mosses in all shapes and colors, ferns in all sizes, fun greens and branches, tulips, callas, and peonies in spring, dahlias in the fall, berries and foliage in winter. Furthermore I love using river rocks, moss-covered bark, driftwood, pods, sponge mushrooms all fabulous materials which add so much character and detail to a Northwest-inspired design. Just a few months ago, when we went for a day hike in the mountains, I couldnt resist and started foraging; fortunately I had brought a bag and started collecting droppings off the forest floor. I found large chunks of bark, cool shaped branches covered with different colored mosses, mushroom covered bark, and fern curls. I ended up incorporating all these materials for an event I had scheduled for the next weekend. It ended up looking spectacular!

As a floral designer, what else are you inspired by? What are your other favorite design styles? Actually I see myself as an event designer which goes far beyond just the floral aspect of an event. I look at an event as a whole: the venue, the event space, the floor plan, existing décor, linens, chairs, lighting, color scheme, etc, etc. I take each of them into consideration when designing a floral arrangement. For example, I cannot create an arrangement without knowing the linen color or the size of the ballroom. Each piece is part of a grand plan. My ultimate goal is a harmonious and unified look and feel of the event space as a whole. I can be inspired by many different design styles. I love clean and modern creations in their simplicity as much as a large lush romantic garden design. It can be a single flower or a particular container that can inspire an entire event.

How would you suggest brides from other regions incorporate local flora into their wedding decor design? Just start looking around you. What is blooming in your backyard? What is naturally growing in your local park? What is native for your area? Is there an art style typical for your region? It is typically those native elements that add personality and a uniqueness to your wedding day. Just because things are growing in your backyard doesnt mean they are boring or too common. Correctly combined with other flowers and decor elements, these designs can be super elegant and beautiful.

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Relaxed, elegant, intimate

What inspired your South Africa wedding, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? We wanted a wedding that allowed us to interact with the guests. We wanted to make everyone comfortable and relaxed which would allow them to be themselves, as we know them. We didn’t want a formal event where we felt detached from the guests. The outdoor service provided that natural setting and openness which aligned with our characters.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Our outdoor service overlooking the vineyards; the stunning decor in the marquee tent; canapes and drinks on the lawn; good honest food; lighting in the marquee at night. Our venue was also a gallery which was stunning. All in all, it was just a great party!

Glamorous Downtown Philadelphia Wedding by Wedding Photographers Justin and Mary – Kim and Steve Slaton

Glamorous Downtown Philadelphia Wedding by Wedding Photographers Justin and Mary – Kim and Steve Slaton

One of the first steps in wedding planning is to prioritize, and today’s stylish newlyweds, Kim and Steve , had no trouble determining their most important priorities! Above all else, they wanted to be surrounded by love and family on their incredible wedding day. They managed to do exactly that, and they also found ways to include a gorgeous metallic color palette, some stunning fashion, and a lot of glamorous details!

The Goals: The first priority for Kim and Steve was to be able to invite everyone that they wanted to celebrate with on their important day, both family and friends. They worked hard to make sure that their budgeting and planning would allow for this. After that, it was all about having an easy, enjoyable celebration, so their wedding planner, Gina Sole , was an absolute must! And finally, they knew that they would treasure their wedding photos, so selecting photographers Justin and Mary was another big priority. In retrospect, the couple felt that hiring this talented team was the best decision they made during the planning process!

The Design: Philadelphia’s weather can be unpredictable in February, so Kim and Steve held both the ceremony and reception downtown at The Hyatt at The Bellevue so that guests would not have to brave the elements traveling between locations. And while their ceremony took place at the hotel, it was particularly special because they were married by the pastor of Kim’s church, which she has attended since she was a toddler! The beautiful ballroom of The Hyatt inspired the color palette of blue, grey, and ivory with accents of gold; and the vintage look that was so fitting in the gorgeous room.

The Look: Kim put together a bridal look that was classic and elegant, and had fun indulging her self-described “shoe-nista” tendencies! She loved her dress that made her feel like a princess, but her favorite part of her look was a special pair of sparkling Louboutins . She adores getting to wear those amazing shoes on a regular basis now.

For her bridesmaids, Kim choose flattering, flowing jersey dresses that were both comfortable and elegant. The men were stylishly attired in classic suits with special Gucci ties chosen by Steve.

The Moments: The wedding day was filled with special moments that the couple will treasure forever. Kim described walking down the aisle as completely surreal! Their first look was so special, as Steve made his bride feel like she was the only one in the room. And during the couple’s first dance, their children broke away from their grandparents and gleefully joined Kim and Steve on the dance floor for a sweet moment that made for precious memories and photos!

The Pros: To learn about all of the talented professionals that brought this special day to life, be sure to visit Kim and Steve’s page in our Real Wedding Library !
