Bright, Multicultural Washington D.C. Wedding – Rachel and Bhavik

What adjectives best describe your wedding? Quintessential DC, elegance with a multicultural twist.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? I wanted our day to be romantic, elegant and fun. Since my husband is Hindu, we did a traditional Hindu and Christian ceremony so that both sides of our family and culture were represented. We decided that our reception would be the part of our wedding that truly represented our personal style.

We both love D.C. so we wanted a space that would truly capture the feel of our city. The Ronald Reagan Building fit that to a tee. Since it was going to be such a long day we wanted to keep our guests moving around so they didnt get bored. We also wanted to incorporate the outdoors and have indoor/outdoor spaces. The Pavilion Room was the perfect spot for our reception because it had balconies overlooking the city and a huge glass ceiling that allowed us to see the stars at night. In order to incorporate the romance we had large orchid arrangements with hanging candles floating down, and also had shorter arrangements with LOTS of candles. We had originally wanted cherry blossoms, so Da Vinci Florist made the orchid arrangements mimic cherry blossoms, since they were just out of season for our wedding. Our cakes pattern mimicked the lace on my dress. To incorporate a little fun we had the bridesmaids in short ball-gown style dresses and a photo and video booth.

Because we were doing two ceremonies I decided I wanted my personal style to be very traditional for both weddings. For the Hindu ceremony I wore a traditional sari with lots of gold jewelry. To incorporate my personal style and personality I made sure the sari and jewelry had a big bling factor to them because I love all things sparkly! For the Christian ceremony I wanted a traditional yet romantic look so I chose a cathedral veil for the actual ceremony and removed it for the reception. I incorporated a lot of sparkle again with my jewelry. My grandmother had passed away recently so I chose her favorite flowers for my bouquet: peonies and garden roses. I also had my bouquet wrapped with left over material from my dress.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Being surrounded by all of our loved ones and friends was the most amazing part of our wedding! Seeing everyone together, in one place, to celebrate your love–it was one of those moments when you realize how lucky you are to have such amazing people in your life. It was truly powerful.

Also, walking down the aisle and meeting my fiances gaze was a really amazing moment. I had held it together all day, half way down the aisle we locked eyes and I started crying because I realized I was about to marry my best friend. When I got to the stage he was teary too and we both whispered, “I love you.” At the end of the ceremony my grandfather pronounced us husband and wife, and instead of saying you may now kiss the bride, he said, You may now kiss my granddaughter! It was really sweet.

At the Hindu ceremony their was a portion where everyone throws flowers at you for good luck. Well, our bridal party got a little over zealous and pretty much started a flower fight! It was hilarious and all of our guests enjoyed it a great deal.

And last, but not least, we are so happy we decided to do a photo and video booth. We have so many fun and goofy pictures of all of our friends and family. The video booth turned out hilarious and we also have a lot of really sweet messages from our loved ones. Priceless memories!

Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ at The Resort at Paws Up

Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ at The Resort at Paws Up

Whenever I’m asked if I like to camp, I immediately say, “Of course! I love it!” But what I mean by “I love it” is that I love the fresh air, the beauty of nature, and the ability to be unplugged and utterly relaxed in the great outdoors. I don’t mean that I own any camping gear, like to hike for miles with a heavy pack, or know how to survive in the wilderness, let alone set up my own tent. I willingly admit, I’m a 5-star hotel kind of girl. So imagine my delight in learning about The Resort at Paws Up and their incredible options for glamping. That’s right folks, glamping. Camping in a luxury tent with a king sized bed, fine linens, a fully stocked spa bathroom, a personal butler, and an unbelievable view of the Montana mountains and sky. Hello honeymoon! Nature-lovers, who’s with me?

Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ at The Resort at Paws Up

The Resort at Paws Up is Montana’s premier luxury ranch resort, situated on a sprawling 37,000-acre working cattle ranch in central, western Montana. Paws Up is passionate about providing the most intimate, unfiltered connection with the natural beauty of Montana, along side the most extraordinary comfort possible. Their top-of-the-line accommodations include 28 private vacation homes and 24 glamping tents, with customer service that’s unparalleled.

Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ at The Resort at Paws Up

Honeymooners looking for a vacation where they can truly get away from it all can enjoy Paws Up’s selection of Honeymoon Homes , featuring fireplaces, kitchens, grand master bathrooms, flat-screen tvs and spacious decks with outdoor hot tubs, or their exclusive Honeymoon Tent , where, as Paws Up likes to say, you get to “rough it like a royal.”

Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ at The Resort at Paws Up

In addition to Paws Up’s rustic chic accommodations, they have all the amenities that make a romantic honeymoon complete – incredible gourmet food, activities for two, and my personal favorite… spa treatments! Discretely nestled on the edge of an expansive meadow just past an authentic babbling brook, is Spa Town at Paws Up – a colony of pristine white tents along a wooden boardwalk where you can get your relaxation on. From complementary yoga classes to couple’s massages, body scrubs and mud wraps, Spa Town has it all!

Honeymoon ‘Glamping’ at The Resort at Paws Up

Intrigued? You can learn more about all that The Resort at Paws Up has to offer for honeymoons, romantic get-aways, family vacations, and even weddings on their website at http://www.PawsUp.com . And hopefully, if we’re both lucky enough, I’ll see you there!

The Couple: Meghan and Derek

The Wedding: 9.10.11 – South Ferry Church and Sunset Bungalow at Kinney Farm , Narragansett, Rhode Island

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Authentic, rustic-elegant, and laid-back.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? As native Rhode Islanders, it was important for us to keep it local, so all of our vendors from the caterer to the band were from Rhode Island. Music plays a huge role in our lives, so it was a central theme in our wedding. Our close friends, Roisin and Bob, sang during the ceremony, an amazing local DJ, Peter Dante, played reggae during the cocktail hour and several members of our reception band, Wayz and Means , are dear friends of ours.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? The best decision we made was not having a full bridal party; we only had a maid of honor and best man, which kept it simple and intimate. For me, Meghan, my best memory was when Derek surprised me by taking the stage and performing with the band and displaying a hand-written message to me on the back of his guitar. When the night ended and nobody wanted to leave, we knew we had planned a good party!

What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Relaxed, vibrant, joyful

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? My constant inspiration in life are my three beautiful girls. I wanted to celebrate a day of family and love with fun entertainment that the girls could also enjoy. They of course are our little angels and picked out their own dresses. So I guess you could say they were the personality of the big day: fun, youthful, and all smiles!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? My 2 year old daughter was the flower girl and while walking down the aisle she stopped abruptly at the first set of seated guests, and turned her basket upside down and dumped the flower petals onto the floor. It was such a cute and precious moment, everyone had a good laugh.
