Dominican Republic Destination Beach Wedding – Rukiya and Qubi

Dominican Republic Destination Beach Wedding – Rukiya and Qubi

Rukiya and Qubi’s Dominican Republic destination beach wedding, photographed by SB Childs Photography , is not only delightful to look at, but it absolutely tugs at the heartstrings with all of the sweet ways they honored their families. Read on to enjoy the beauty, and just see if you don’t feel your heart swell with love!

Dominican Republic Destination Beach Wedding – Rukiya and Qubi

The Goals: Rukiya and Qubi were thrilled with their decision to have an intimate and personal destination wedding, but more than anything, as parents, they knew that they wanted to include their sons in their wedding. Just before their ceremony at Dreams Palm Beach Resort began, the couple gave special gifts to each of their boys. “Knowing that Qubi and I were exchanging rings, we wanted to present gifts to our children as well to show them that it was their special day too. We had ID bracelets and necklaces engraved with their names on them. I presented Jaces (Qubis biological son) gifts to him, and Qubi presented the gifts to Kyran (my biological son). Reminding them that we are not replacing the parents they have, but rather enhancing the relationships we’ve already established with them.” What a wonderful idea! During their meaningful Christian ceremony, Kyran walked his mom down the aisle and they included a contemporary sand ceremony that included both boys. During the reception, instead of traditional parent dances, they did a mother sons dance where Rukiya danced with Kyran and Jace.

The Design: To add to the tropical beach-chic feel of their amazing Punta Cana location, Rukiya and Qubi chose khaki, mint green and coral wedding colors. Save the Dates that looked like boarding passes and invitations that looked like passports had been sent to each of their 20 guests, and canvas beach bags welcomed everyone upon arrival. Travel agents VIP Vacations helped arrange details for wedding travelers – a special touch I think is brilliant for a destination wedding!

The Look: Rukiya’s personal bridal style was inspired by their Dominica Republic destination. “I knew I wanted ruffles at the bottom similar to the Dominican flamenco dresses. I ended up selecting a form-fitting mermaid style dress that flattered my petite frame.” Rukiya’s maid of honor wore coral and her bridesmaid wore green – each dresses they chose themselves. Qubi wore a perfect-for-the-tropics tan suit with leather sandals and a coral tie. He wanted his groomsman to be comfortable so they all wore khaki pants with linen shirts and their sons wore matching white linen outfits.

The Moments: Getting to spend ample time with all of their guests made a destination wedding the perfect choice for these newly-weds. They even incorporated the concept into the way they approached their wedding favors. “In lieu of traditional favors, we treated our guests to an experience they would never forget. The night before the wedding we chartered a private boat and set sail on a three-hour sunset dinner cruise. Transportation picked us up from the hotel and took us to the dock. We set sail and docked at a natural swimming pool where our guests were able to either take a swim or relax on the boat. After we ate our dinner we danced and partied the night away as we set sail back to the dock. It was definitely a highlight of the weekend.”

The Niemierko Academy

If you’re a beginning wedding planner or if you’re thinking about getting into the industry, there’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the international wedding industry’s best and brightest, Mark Niemierko. Mark not only plans some of the most spectacular weddings in London and around the world, but he’s so dapper and dashing and delightful to be around, I swear the cost of attending his week long academy would be worth it just to be near him for that long. Ok, maybe that’s just me. For those in it for the right reasons, Mark’s intimate 10 student workshop at the Dorchester in London is amazingly in-depth, covering every creative and logistical detail that goes into a well run event. He and his team will also be joined by a host of wedding industry experts, including Elton Johns florist Rob Van Helden, Kate Moss wedding cake designer Peggy Porschen and Princess Dianas former make-up artist Maggie Hunt. Check out this video to learn more about The Niemierko Academy, taking place in October 2011, and January and April 2012, and get charmed by Mr. Niemierko yourself.

Autumn North Carolina Wedding at Old Orchard Creek – Jeremie Barlow Photography – Aimee and JT

Autumn North Carolina Wedding at Old Orchard Creek – Jeremie Barlow Photography – Aimee and JT

The couple: Aimee and JT

The Wedding: 9.25.10 – Old Orchard Creek , Lansing, North Carolina

What three adjectives that best describe your wedding? Rustic, elegant and fun

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? Our favorite season is fall, so we knew we wanted a fall wedding and both of our favorite colors are orange. Neither of us wanted a big traditional wedding and knew we wanted it to be rustic and a relaxed atmosphere. I wanted the trees in the apple orchard at Old Orchard Creek full of old rustic lanterns. We also hung orange and cream colored ribbon from the trees and lined the isle with shepherd hooks that held flower filled mason jars. One of my hardest finds were my shoes, I wanted to have a pop of color and wanted them to be burnt orange. I literally bought 12 pairs online before I found THE ONES but I found them! Instead of having the traditional programs, we had the wedding party information printed on card stock and glued to small cookie bags which were filled with oatmeal cookies. We also served lemonade with blueberries with the cookies as guest arrived.

After JT and I said I DO, servers passed out champagne to the us, the bridal party and all of the guest. JT gave a very tearful toast, thanking all of our friends and family for sharing in our special day. It was very special.

After the toast, JT and I took pictures while our guests enjoyed the cocktail hour and listened to Appalachian States Hayes quartet. After the cocktail hour, JT and I, along with our bridal party, were introduced and then JT and I danced to A fool for you by John Butler Trio (one of our favorite bands). We also took lyrics from about 12 of our favorite songs and had them printed on beautiful card stock and placed on various tables at the reception.

The reception area also had a ton of paper lanternsbrown, deep orange and cream to continue with our color theme. We danced all night to Scoot Pittman Trio, one of our favorite local Charlotte bands. We did not want traditional wedding music and the Scoot Pittman Trio perfectly represented our personalities.

We wanted an intimate wedding with our closest friends and family and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? Deciding on how I would walk down the isle. My father passed away in December 2008, JT did not want anyone else taking his place walking me down the isle, so we decided that he would walk toward me and meet me half way and then walk me the rest of the way down the isle. We kept it a surprise from everyone, so not only was it sweet for us but everything there knew the importance of him doing that.

Wedding color palette: Fall oranges, browns and creams.

1920s Paris and New Orleans Wedding Inspiration and Ideas

1920s Paris and New Orleans Wedding Inspiration and Ideas

There’s usually an intense level of romance floating along with most people’s visions of Paris, New Orleans, and the era of the 1920s. With these romantic notions in mind Britney and Holly, the talented photography team at Magnolia Pair decided to create a fabulous wedding inspiration shoot in the French Quarter of New Orleans. “The idea for the shoot came to us after watching Midnight in Paris. The film does an incredible job of carrying you away to 1920s Paris. The mood and color palette are almost dreamy. From that, we wanted to create an aesthetic that could inspire present-day brides to incorporate those dreamy ideas from the 1920s into their wedding day.” Together with Elyse from Tying the Knot , Britney and Holly created a shoot filled with vintage wedding fashion, Sazerac cocktails, and that distinct New Orleans vibe!

Blush and Gray Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding at Maravilla Gardens, California – Cricket and Casey

Blush and Gray Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding at Maravilla Gardens, California – Cricket and Casey

Cricket and Casey, you’re making my day here with your Great Gatsby and Coco Chanel inspired wedding ! Who wouldn’t adore attending an event with such an elegant vintage feel to it? From the pale pink florals to the sophisticated fashion, I’m absolutely loving it all in these photos from photographer Christine Farah !

Blush and Gray Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding at Maravilla Gardens, California – Cricket and Casey

The Goals: Cricket and Casey wanted a day filled with love, beauty and fun, and in their search for the perfect wedding venue, they were thrilled to find Maravilla Gardens . “We loved the outdoor venue for our ceremony and reception. The gardens were so lush, well manicured and so thoughtfully landscaped, it was perfect for our Gatsby inspired wedding.”

Blush and Gray Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding at Maravilla Gardens, California – Cricket and Casey

The Design: With the help of wedding planner Alexandra Rembac of Sterling Engagements and florist Susan Tom-Nellis of Peony and Plum Floral Design Cricket and Casey chose wedding colors of blush, dove gray, black and white to create their elegant, vintage, garden environment.

Their wedding invitations were simple but beautiful white card stock with black calligraphy, a black ribbon on the left side, and their C monogram in Tiffany blue. The three tiered wedding cake from Fantasy Frostings was beautiful of course, covered with fondant and decorated with black ribbon and a blush peony at the top. The cake’s bottom tier was funfetti with cream cheese frosting, the second tier was triple berry yellow cake, and the top layer was a black and white cake with a coconut creme.

Instead of traditional wedding favors, Cricket and Casey wanted to give back after all the natural disasters that had recently occurred, so they made a donation to the American Red Cross in honor of their guests.

And perhaps one of the most fun details of the day was the inclusion of Cricket and Casey’s beloved pups! “Casey and I are all about our dogs so we incorporated them in the wedding. Layla and Maggie were our flower girls along with our 2 year old goddaughter, Sydney. They wore handmade dove grey tutus with garden roses in their hair. Rocky, our male chihuahua, wore a black bow-tie and the handmade ring bearer pillow. We also incorporated them into our table numbers. Casey created silhouettes of our 3 chihuahuas along with the other doggies from our family.”

The Look: Cricket fell in love with not just one, but two wedding dresses – one by Tara Keely and one by Jim Hjelm . She pulled her hair up for the ceremony and then wore it loose with large barrel curls for the reception – so fun! For the wedding party, Cricket says, “I wanted them to look and feel GORGEOUS. I chose a soft palette for the girls and had them choose from a number of dresses, not repeating any style or color. My aim was to have them look like a runway collection and not a group of girls wearing the same dress. The guys looked sharp in their classic black tuxes with suspenders and dove grey ties.” Agreed.

Blush and Gray Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding at Maravilla Gardens, California – Cricket and Casey

The Moments: Because Cricket is Catholic and Casey is atheist they worked hard to make their non-denominational ceremony a perfect blend of their values and beliefs. “We thought a lot about what was going to be said at our ceremony because of our differences in religion. Every word meant so much to each of us and crafting what rang true to us and coming to a compromise was a great journey on its own. The whole ceremony for us both was out of this world. Hank, our pastor, was perfect, and declaring our love to our family and friends felt powerful and awesome.”

For the reception Cricket and Casey choose a formal dinner created by Command Performance Catering that started with a crepe brie and fig salad, then a choice of four different entrees with three amazing sides. They served two signature cocktails comprised of their favorite things; the Golden Groom included Crown Royal, Amaretto and a splash of sprite, and the Blushing Bride was a classic French martini. YUM!

Following all that incredible food, DJ Predakon , a good friend of Casey’s who flew in from NY for the event, spun tunes all night. “There was never a dull moment thanks to him. Jazz, Bossa Nova, Rock, Oldies and Top 40 kept everything well paced.

The Pros: To learn about all of the wedding professionals who helped create this wedding day please visit Cricket and Casey’s page in our Real Wedding Library .
