You’ve just got to love the vibrant colors in Kate and Gil’s contemporary LA wedding , originally posted on February 11, 2010…

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Kate and Gil’s Modern LA Wedding

Today’s Real Wedding is truly a feast for the eyes with its rich colors, stylish details and dramatic photographs by Joy Marie Photography , not to mention, the beautiful couple themselves. Kate and Gil , a vibrant couple with super fun personalities, were married last October in an outdoor ceremony at the Skirball Cultural Center , a contemporary art museum in Los Angeles. The bride, an interior designer, infused the entire event with striking jewel tones and stunning flower choices that truly made the evening pop.

The bridesmaids all wore eggplant-hued dresses by Jim Hjelm and carried bouquets of green Cymbidium orchids and dark purple calla lilies. Kate herself wore a Simone Carvalli dress, and carried a traditional glass evil-eye for luck and protection. Her “something old” was a sentimental accessory, her grandmother’s wedding band. Standing between two 12-foot Manzaneta trees, dripping with crystals, green orchids and draping moss, the couple recited their vows in a ceremony that incorporated both their Jewish and Catholic faiths, with passages that would truly speak to everyone in attendance. This wedding had no shortage of sentimental moments. When the father-of-the-bride first saw his little girl in all her wedding-day splendor, he burst into tears, and while reciting their vows, Gil let a single tear run down his cheek.

The couple and their guests moved inside for the reception where Kate was able to really play up her dream of combining bright, dramatic wedding colors with the sleek and contemporary feel of the museum and its gray stone architecture. Under pink and white lights, the couple had their first dance to Sade’s By Your Side , which they chose for the truth in symbolism in the words – reminding each other that even at the lowest of lows, they would always stay together. Kate and Gil enjoyed their first dance as though no one else was even in the room, talking about how they excited they were for the rest of their lives!

Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us Kate and Gil! Gorgeous! For more information about all the professionals who contributed to this wedding, be sure to visit our Real Weddings library .

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Erin and Ben Chrisman’s Amazing Mexico Wedding

This Mexico wedding falls into our favorites category for so many reasons – the event was incredibly unique, totally authentic and overflowing with love, the photos just couldn’t be better, and the couple themselves are people we adore. Photographers and Junebug members Ben and Erin Chrisman are two of the most special people we’ve been lucky enough to get to know over the past 5 years of Junebug, so of course we’re excited to take another look at their beautiful wedding post, originally published on March 14, 2011…

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Erin and Ben Chrisman’s Amazing Mexico Wedding

Today we have a very special Real Wedding that’s so sweet it spans both of our blogs as well as our Real Wedding Library ! Photographers Erin and Ben Chrisman are not only some of the very best wedding photographers in the world, they are also madly in love with one another and when you’re lucky enough to see them together in person, there is no doubt that their love story is one for the ages. They were married in Mexico last November, and they used their creativity and experience attending hundreds of other weddings to create an event for themselves and their friends that was 100%, perfectly, personal.

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Erin and Ben Chrisman’s Amazing Mexico Wedding

With many of their friends being wedding photographers one of their biggest goals was to have a “kickass party for all our wedding photographer friends who never get to go to weddings as guests.” How fun is that?

The wedding was officially photographed by one of Erin and Ben’s associate photographers, Aaron Morris of Chrisman Studios , whose heart-stopping images you are seeing here, as well as by Twin Lens Images , whose work you can see today over on Photobug today along with an interview of Ben and Erin. Don’t miss it!

Another main goal was to have an intimate and meaningful wedding that felt fun, relaxed and spontaneous, without too many rules or formalities. Erin and Ben met in and adore the country of Mexico, so after an intense search for the perfect location, they chose to have a destination wedding at the stunningly unique Hacienda Uayamon in Campeche. It’s a luxury boutique hotel that holds authentic ruins from the 1700s, including the incredible crumbling chapel where their candle-lit wedding ceremony took place.

After throwing out the ceremony they had been rehearsing because it just felt too formal, they asked their friend and officiant Sam to improvise and surprise them with something new. As the wedding began, Erin and Ben walked down the aisle together and were overwhelmed with emotion as all of their guests clapped and cheered along with the live music. For Erin this was her very favorite moment of the day, and “was just the warmest, most encouraging, most embracing feeling I could ever imagine. I was immediately relaxed by it, and it set the tone for the rest of the ceremony. It’s just another example of why sometimes it’s best to let everyone surprise you.”

The wedding reception was a true celebration, and their outdoor setting was simply unbelievable! Surrounded by ancient ruins as well as incredible modern lighting, Erin and Ben danced with their friends and family long into the night. One look at these dance floor images and you’ll see exactly when I mean – what a perfect party!

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Mae and Anthony – Elizabeth Messina’s Grandfather

What can we say about this romantic, touching, and emotional wedding, photographed by the wonderful Elizabeth Messina? We originally published the post on June 11th, 2009, and we love looking back at it every chance we get…

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Mae and Anthony – Elizabeth Messina’s Grandfather

Another edition of favorite wedding photographs from our sweet and talented Art Director Kim….

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Mae and Anthony – Elizabeth Messina’s Grandfather

The artist: Elizabeth Messina

The adoration: Six years ago while planning my own wedding I came across the most charming and inspiring real wedding in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine . I cut it out to put in my own wedding inspiration book along with fabrics, photos, sketches, color palettes, seating charts, and dozens of pages of stylish details. In the end it was the only real wedding that made its way into my book. I could have only dreamed that six years later I would meet the photographer and become her friend. These photos by Elizabeth Messina are from her own grandfather’s wedding. No doubt you’ll be as inspired as I was by the touchingly beautiful images. We feel truly honored to be able to share them with you.

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Mae and Anthony – Elizabeth Messina’s Grandfather

Anthony and Mae began their courtship after Anthony’s friends recognized a kindred spirit in Mae and urged him to call her. When Mae arrived for their blind date she was 20 minutes early and he was already there. Both widowed, both Sicilian, and both longing to travel back to the island, they spent the next year traveling together and supporting one another as they faced life’s challenges and fell in love. One spring day Mae opened her door to find a giant bouquet of flowers and a note that said, “I love you, I need you, let’s get married!” With enthusiastic blessings from their families, plans soon began for an intimate church ceremony and a cocktail reception for 50 guests.

Elizabeth fondly remembers the moments before the wedding when her grandfather, a former first-chair concert violinist, serenaded her alone as he waited to go to his bride.

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Mae and Anthony – Elizabeth Messina’s Grandfather

With Anthony’s son as their best man and Elizabeth’s daughter as their flower girl, Anthony and Mae became husband and wife surrounded by their closest family members and friends. Now that they are no longer on this earth, they still remind us that love is all there is.

These gorgeous images, full of joy and promise, were taken in and around the Santuario de Chimayo Church outside of Santa Fe where it is said that miracles happen, and obviously they do.

Thank you again, Elizabeth, for sharing these treasured photos with us; you are an endless inspiration and truly a miracle in our lives!

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Genesis and Kevin’s Elopement to Paris

What we originally wrote when this Paris destination elopement wedding was first published on September 9, 2009 says it all! Read on for pure Parisian delight…

Paris + Elopement + New Years Eve + The most captivating couple around = R.O.M.A.N.C.E. What more is there to say?

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Genesis and Kevin’s Elopement to Paris

Genesis and Kevin, the stunning and oh-so-in-love couple in today’s Real Wedding , had started planning a large traditional wedding, but soon felt like they were losing sight of their main priority- that their wedding day would be all about their commitment and their love- so out went the traditional wedding, and in came a plan to elope to the most romantic city on earth. Paris!

On the morning of the wedding, Genesis and Kevin woke up giddy. As they were getting ready they had their photographers, Amy and Stuart of Amy and Stuart Photography , deliver letters they had written to each other, along with a surprise gift from Kevin to Genesis of diamond earrings and a brand new veil. She had accidentally left the veil her mother had given her at home, so Kevin secretly found a wedding boutique in Paris that agreed to whip her up a new one. Sweet! Genesis wore a gorgeous dress by Amsale , pink shoes from Valentino (a woman after my own heart) and carried a bouquet of pink peonies, her favorite flowers, which they were miraculously able to find in the middle of winter in Paris! Kevin wore a tux by Valentino and his late father’s cherished gold four leaf clover cuff links.

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Genesis and Kevin’s Elopement to Paris

Their small, private wedding ceremony took place in the courtyard at the Hotel Plaza Athenee . They were attended simply by two of their dear friends, along with their photographers Amy and Stuart, and videographers, Fifty Foot Films . After the ceremony there was a first dance to Today by Joshua Radin , chocolate wedding cake prepared by a world champion pastry chef, and photos on the roof top of their hotel, overlooking all of Paris. Standing on the rooftop in Kevin’s arms was one of Genesis’ very favorite moments of the day!

In the courtyard next to their ceremony site was a small ice skating rink where they began their day of fun, running around Paris with their photography team, exploring the city and taking photos at many of it’s most beautiful locations. From the roof top of their hotel, to Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower and throughout a carriage ride down the Champs-Elysees, they reveled in every joyous, spontaneous moment, and celebrated the new year and their new beginning as husband and wife.

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Nikki and Bobby’s Mexico Destination Wedding!

Could this sophisticated and modern Cabo San Lucas, Mexico destination wedding be any lovlier? Originally published on February 18, 2011, Nikki and Bobby’s wedding was one of a kind, and we’ll be bringing you more of Junebug’s favorite destination weddings from around the world, all day today…

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Nikki and Bobby’s Mexico Destination Wedding!

Today’s destination real wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico simply takes my breath away! Planned by One Happenings Weddings & Events and photographed by the talented Scott Andrew Studio , Nikki and Bobby’s beach wedding was an intimate, romantic and incredibly stylish celebration that looks as if it couldn’t have been any more chic. Enjoy!

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Nikki and Bobby’s Mexico Destination Wedding!

The Goals: Nikki and Bobby chose to host a destination wedding because their main priority was to spend quality time with the people they love. They knew it was an unorthodox decision, but it turned out to be the very best one they made. “The wedding was truly perfect and it was extremely humbling to see the generosity of our friends and family – all of those who were able to attend, and even those that were not. We could not have asked for a more perfect day.”

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Nikki and Bobby’s Mexico Destination Wedding!

The Design: The wedding ceremony took place on the beach for the location’s beauty and because Bobby is an avid fisherman and loves to be on the water. As they said their vows, a motorcycle stood off to the side to honor the memory of Nikki’s father who had passed away several years before. “It was an extremely important part of the ceremony and something we were so proud to be able to have there.” The aisle, altar and seating benches were decorated with clean and modern white fabric accented by tall, sculptural white and pink orchid arrangements from Mazarte Floral . Gorgeous!

The reception was held at at Villa Bellissima in the Pedregal community of Cabo San Lucas, an incredibly gorgeous home on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, where the elegant but modern look continued. White linens, calla lilies, candle light and touches of gold decorated the tabletops and place cards were displayed on mini fishing poles to delight those who know Bobby so well. Instead of wedding cake, the couple chose to have a dessert buffet from Lazy Gourmet filled with various white desserts.

The Look: Nikki’s Ramona Keveza wedding dress was “the one” and she knew it the moment she first tried it on at the famed Kleinfeld Bridal in New York.It was light and airy, ideal for the beach, but also a perfect match for Nikki’s personal style – “a little extravagant and edgy.” The bridesmaids wore pale gold dresses and Bobby and his groomsmen wore sleek black tuxedos. In Nikki’s dress was a special touch that was both her something old and something blue – a photo of herself and her father sewn in with a blue ribbon. Her something borrowed came in the form of a piece of jewelry from her mother, and her something new was a pair a diamond earring that Bobby bought her for the wedding day.

Junebug’s Favorite Weddings – Nikki and Bobby’s Mexico Destination Wedding!

The Moments: To begin the wedding ceremony, Nikki’s brother walked her down the aisle in place of her father, which was an extremely meaningful and emotional gesture for Nikki and her family. “All of my life, my father and I talked about the moment he would have to give me away – where I would no longer be his little girl. Having my brother there to fill his shoes was an incredible moment for me. I felt my father’s presence then, as he watched us walk down the aisle together.”

During the ceremony and later during the first dance to James Taylor’s Something In The Way She Moves , Nikki and Bobby had sweet moments where they felt like, although there were 130 people watching them, they were the only ones there. Then, when fireworks went off at the beach to signify the start of the party, they loved sitting back together to enjoy the moment and see the joy of all the loved ones surrounding them.

The Pros: To learn about the whole team of wedding professionals who contributed to this amazing wedding, please visit Nikki and Bobby’s page in our Real Wedding Library !

Pink and Gray Bali Destination Wedding – Eva and Thomas

Pink and Gray Bali Destination Wedding – Eva and Thomas

Bali destination weddings always make me want to pack my bags and head for the airport to join in the fun and sun! What a spectacular location for a destination wedding, and what a wonderful celebration we have to share with you today, courtesy of Tinydot Photography . Pink and gray wedding decor and the beauty of the Chinese and Balinese cultures, what a combination!

Pink and Gray Bali Destination Wedding – Eva and Thomas

The Goals: Eva and Thomas were excited to host a destination wedding in Bali that was smaller and more intimate than the traditional 500 guest Hong Kong weddings they were used to. They wanted all of their guests to really get into traveling to such a beautiful location, so they incorporated lots of personal details, thoughtful surprises and bits of Balinese culture in their wedding details, even including a traditional balinese dance performance during the wedding reception.

Pink and Gray Bali Destination Wedding – Eva and Thomas

The Design: The wedding day began with a beautiful traditional Chinese tea ceremony where Eva and Thomas served tea to their families and received blessings in return. After that they moved on to a Catholic wedding ceremony at the Ritual Chapel and then a beach-front reception at the Ayana Resort & Spa . The wedding was decorated with light pink and gray decor in a rustic chic theme, that transitioned into darker fuchsia and silver wedding colors as the evening progressed.

Eva and Thomas’ custom wedding invitations by Whizzz Studio were meant to entice each guest to make the trip to Bali, so a lot of thought and care was put into their design. The letterpress invitations were decorated with the couple’s silhouettes, and included a booklet listing all travel information, an itinerary for the 4-day trip, and recommendations for leisure and entertainment while in Bali.

Wedding favors of monogrammed white beach towels were given to each guest, and came in handy much earlier than expected with it rained at the very end of the night and guests used their plush new towels to dry themselves off!

The Look: Eva wore a modern ball gown wedding dress designed by Karl Lagerfeld along with 2 pairs of shoes, by Badgley Mischka and Manolo Blahnik , with jewelry by Universal Jewellery . Eva loved her “simple styled hair, clean neckline, and my beautiful vintage cut earrings.”

The bridesmaids wore wonderful light pink dresses in a short but similar shape to Eva’s wedding dress, and the groom and groomsmen wore pale gray suits and shirts with vests that were light enough to keep them cool in the tropical heat. Pink parasols completed the look, and added such a fun touch to the wedding photos!

Pink and Gray Bali Destination Wedding – Eva and Thomas

The Moments: One of Eva’s most memorable moments was during their wedding ceremony. “I loved when we said our vows at the beautiful chapel, in the bright sun, with the sea as backdrop.” She also loved the speeches given by each her father and Thomas, their fun first dance and husband and wife to More Than A Woman by the Bee Gees (which they practiced for over 4 months!), and the amazing fireworks that went off immediately following it! So sweet!

The Pros: To learn about the whole team of wedding professionals that contributed to this wedding, please see Eva and Thomas’ page in our real wedding library.
