Las Vegas Wedding Fashion Photo Shoot to Benefit Thirst Relief International

Las Vegas Wedding Fashion Photo Shoot to Benefit Thirst Relief International

The wedding community, being made up of so many creative artists and small business owners, is a generous and innovative bunch when it comes to giving back, and the organization Thirst Relief International is a great example of this. Founded by photographer Jim Davis Hicks , Thirst Relief works to provide safe, clean drinking water for those in need around the world, and wedding photographers are currently their biggest group of donors. They travel to countries to document the work being done, they donate their time and money, and they participate in events like the one we’re showcasing today.

The Thirst Relief WPPI Benefit Shoot was an event photographers bid on during the Thirst Relief Mentor Auction annual fundraiser. The idea was to hold an educational event where photographers could get instruction from educators within the industry, while at the same time shooting some fun wedding style images and meeting one another. The shoot took place in Las Vegas during WPPI (the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention) and Junebug was excited to get involved and help the cause by publishing some of the final images.

So today we have some of the wedding fashion photos captured by the instructors and the participants – it’s so interesting to see the various ways that different photographers captured each model and moment!

Playful and Modern Pink, Purple, and Blue South Carolina Wedding – Caroline and Joe

Playful and Modern Pink, Purple, and Blue South Carolina Wedding – Caroline and Joe

Bringing together friends and family from all over Canada and the US, and having a ball expressing their creative personal style, Caroline and Joe’s South Carolina backyard real wedding was filled with fun in every detail! I hope you’ll enjoy their wedding story and they vibrant wedding photos from Caroline Ghetes as much as I have!

Playful and Modern Pink, Purple, and Blue South Carolina Wedding – Caroline and Joe

The Goals: Having met in Sweden and being from different countries, Caroline and Joe were excited to bring together all the people they loved so they could get to know one another, as well as Caroline and Joe as a couple. They loved that everyone could come to visit their new hometown of Charleston, South Carolina and make a long weekend of it. Many members of their wedding party and a number of other friends rented a large house together which gave them even more time to connect. “In the house they all got to meet and hang out. We had a welcome party there the night before the wedding and I think the guests had an even better time the next day because they met a lot of people the night before.”

The Design: To ensure that the wedding details and atmosphere really reflected Caroline and Joe’s personalities, they got involved in creating lots of DIY details and invited friends and family members to utilize their talents to help as well. They set up a photo shoot with the help of a friend and used the images for their wedding invitations, Joe’s aunt and Caroline’s mother created the flower arrangements, Caroline and her bridesmaids made their own bouquets, and Caroline even made all of her bridesmaids’ dresses!

The Look: Caroline’s look was a true expression of her personal style – fun, modern, comfortable, and sparkly! She was sure to incorporate lots of bling in her accessories, and she chose a super funky surprise for Joe when it came to her wedding shoes. “I knew I wasn’t going to wear heels because I’m already taller than my hubs, so I decided to surprise him by wearing a pair of Air Jordan’s (he loves them!). The ones I chose were pink and gray. I gave him a peek of them when we were standing at the alter and he was so surprised and happy!”

Caroline decided to make all of her bridesmaids’ dresses, which each had a similar silhouette but were totally unique and wildly playful! The groomsmen all had different ties (stripes, starfish, polka dots, etc.) in pink, purple and navy. Wow! So much fun.

The Moments: Caroline loved standing at the alter surrounded by their friends and family, dancing with her father who has been her biggest supporter in life, and seeing all the people from different parts of their lives getting to know each other. Mostly though, looking back their best decision was simply, “marrying each other!”

Unique Destination Wedding in Mexico at Hacienda Uayamon – Erin and Ben Chrisman

Unique Destination Wedding in Mexico at Hacienda Uayamon – Erin and Ben Chrisman

Today we have a very special Real Wedding that’s so sweet it spans both of our blogs as well as our Real Wedding Library ! Photographers Erin and Ben Chrisman are not only some of the very best wedding photographers in the world, they are also madly in love with one another and when you’re lucky enough to see them together in person, there is no doubt that their love story is one for the ages. They were married in Mexico last November, and they used their creativity and experience attending hundreds of other weddings to create an event for themselves and their friends that was 100%, perfectly, personal.

With many of their friends being wedding photographers one of their biggest goals was to have a “kickass party for all our wedding photographer friends who never get to go to weddings as guests.” How fun is that?

The wedding was officially photographed by one of Erin and Ben’s associate photographers, Aaron Morris of Chrisman Photographers , whose heart-stopping images you are seeing here, as well as by Twin Lens Images , whose work you can see today over on Photobug today along with an interview of Ben and Erin. Don’t miss it!

Another main goal was to have an intimate and meaningful wedding that felt fun, relaxed and spontaneous, without too many rules or formalities. Erin and Ben met in and adore the country of Mexico, so after an intense search for the perfect location, they chose to have a destination wedding at the stunningly unique Hacienda Uayamon in Campeche. It’s a luxury boutique hotel that holds authentic ruins from the 1700s, including the incredible crumbling chapel where their candle-lit wedding ceremony took place.

After throwing out the ceremony they had been rehearsing because it just felt too formal, they asked their friend and officiant Sam to improvise and surprise them with something new. As the wedding began, Erin and Ben walked down the aisle together and were overwhelmed with emotion as all of their guests clapped and cheered along with the live music. For Erin this was her very favorite moment of the day, and “was just the warmest, most encouraging, most embracing feeling I could ever imagine. I was immediately relaxed by it, and it set the tone for the rest of the ceremony. It’s just another example of why sometimes it’s best to let everyone surprise you.”

The wedding reception was a true celebration, and their outdoor setting was simply unbelievable! Surrounded by ancient ruins as well as incredible modern lighting, Erin and Ben danced with their friends and family long into the night. One look at these dance floor images and you’ll see exactly when I mean – what a perfect party!

There is much, much more to this special wedding, so I hope that you’ll jump over to Photobug as well as to Erin and Ben’s page in our Real Wedding Library to get the full, wonderful story.

Huge thanks to Aaron for sharing your gorgeous images, and to Erin and Ben for sharing your wedding story with us! We’re so touched to get to be a part of your wedding experience.

Blackberry, Copper and Champagne Prescott, Arizona Destination Wedding Style – Kristin and Jack

Blackberry, Copper and Champagne Prescott, Arizona Destination Wedding Style – Kristin and Jack

The Couple: Kristin and Jack

The Wedding: 10.9.10 – Hassayampa Golf Club , Prescott, AZ

What three adjectives that best describe your wedding? Classic, family-oriented, sentimental.

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? While beautiful, shabby chic, pink garden weddings hold a very, very special place in my heart, I knew from the start that I really wanted to incorporate my husbands style into the wedding. I wanted him to feel like this was his wedding too. We both adore Michael Bublé and the mood that his songs evoke… vintage/Rat Pack era done in a new, modern way. With that as a base, I chose a darker color palette that had a fall feeling, but that was not expected: blackberry, copper and champagne.

Jack and I truly wanted our wedding to be an entire weekend-long event so that we would be able to spend as much time as possible with friends and family, so we decided on a destination wedding of sorts in Prescott, Arizona, a charming little western town in Northern Arizona. The weekend started off with an Early-Bird Welcome Event on Friday morning: an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting at Olive U Naturally, and lunch at our favorite diner. Friday night was the Rehearsal Dinner and the official Welcome Reception at the hotel lounge.

On Saturday, the ceremony was held on the golf club driving range overlooking the entire valley of Prescott just before sunset, with cream rose petals in the aisle, gold chiavari chairs, wedding bell ribbon wands and small baby’s breath posies for the bridesmaids in their dark blackberry dresses. My dress was gorgeous and flowy with lots of fabric – perfect for twirling and dancing. When I walked into the dining room with the low lighting, candles, ivory centerpieces, and long rows of tables with blackberry table runners handmade by my mom, it was as if my imagination had literally jumped out of my head and into the room! It was everything I had dreamed of! All the guests were sipping champagne from vintage champagne coupes, the escort cards were in the shape of a champagne waterfall, the cocktail dinner music was similar to a Michael Bublé Pandora station, and the dinner was TO DIE FOR! Probably the best filet Ive ever eaten, cooked to perfection. Dancing was held outside under the stars in front of glowing fireplaces. We provided pashminas and flip flops that the ladies were going crazy over something that I had seen all over the place while planning, but such a brand-new, brilliant idea to everyone else. We danced the night away and I was even surprised with a serenade by my new husband.

On Sunday morning, our wonderful family friends from Prescott hosted a Jamaican-themed Farewell Brunch, and we jetted of to Jamaica for our honeymoon.

Our wedding was truly a group effort. My mom, bridesmaids and I did A LOT of DIY projects: we designed and letterpressed invitations, and made ribbon wands with wedding bells, programs with purple ribbon, Livestrong favors, purple and copper table runners made from Ikea curtains, and on and on. So much fun lets do it again!

Blackberry, Copper and Champagne Prescott, Arizona Destination Wedding Style – Kristin and Jack

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding? There are too many wonderful moments to only choose one! From Jacks sister officiating and the beautiful handfasting ceremony to our sparkler reception entrance and the dance party that ensued, everything happened just as I imagined it would. One of my absolute favorite moments could actually have been considered a snafu, though! Prior to the big day, our DJ asked us if we wanted to have an open mic after my dad gave his speech at dinner. Without hesitating, I said yes. I thought maybe one or two people would like to get up and say something… never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that 10 people would stand up to tell us how much they loved us as individuals and as a couple! Surprisingly, the mic started off with my usually quiet aunt (who confessed that she had had a couple margaritas during the cocktail hour… love her) and then went though a whole gamut of relatives. Each speech was heartfelt and emotional. Im not sure there was a dry eye in the dining room, including myself and Jack. By the time everyone had their turn, it was already 9:00pm and the salad hadnt even been cleared yet! I gave our DJ the look, he very quickly wrapped up the speeches, and dinner was served. While our unexpected open mic night delayed the schedule a bit, it was so touching that our guests were able to publicly express their feelings for us. I will never forget the love and emotion that surrounded our wedding.
