Ever been frustrated while shopping for that special pair of shoes you’ve been visualizing perfectly in your mind’s eye, but that don’t actually seem to exist our there in the real world? Well if you have then I bet you’ll be as excited as I am to learn about MilkandHoneyShoes.com – an online boutique where you can design your own shoes down to the last little detail. I’m amazed at the materials and design options they offer and the really fashion forward looks you can create. Patent leather peep-toe pumps with a large bow and a 1 inch interior platform? Easy. An aubergine velvet d’Orsay shoe with a skinny 3.5 inch heel? No problem. Any of the looks on the whole site in a white satin or metallic finish, perfect for your wedding day? Done. Sisters and owners (and major shoe lovers) Ilissa and Dorian even welcome specialty orders, shoe parties, and visits to their LA area warehouse for one-on-one help and a wider selection of fabrics and options. Simply incredible, and as their tag line says, “A dream come shoe.”
To welcome the holiday season (can you believe it’s already Thanksgiving week?!) and to indulge my excitement about the snow that’s falling outside my window right now, today’s post is all about wintery-white wedding details. From the fashion and the food to the flowers and the decor, these real wedding photos from our Image Gallery show off that certain sparkle that only a white wedding can create!

When you’re a wedding photographer who has attended many, many (many!) weddings, what do you do to set your own big day apart? Well, if you’re South Africa’s Greg Lumley of Greg Lumley Photography and his new wife Tiffany, you get super creative and honor your guests with personalized place cards complete with designs that represent their personalities, passions and dreams. So fun!
Tiffany gave us descriptions of many of their designs (below) and told us, “It took quite a lot of time but it was certainly worth the effort the guests felt so special and the looks on their faces when they saw what concept we had chosen for them was priceless! We had clips put on the top of each card so they could attach them to their clothing as name tags. Not only did everyone see who was who but the images were great conversation starters.”
Each of Tiffany and Greg’s one hundred guests had their very own place card, starting with Mr. Greg Lumley: the groom and Mrs. Tiffany Lumley: the bride…
Andy: He has done the Iron Man two times. Sadi: She eats popcorn every single day of her life!! Leon: He runs his whole life by appointments work work work. Henry: This was a photo of him taken one night in the Jacuzzi. Thats actually me, the bride, appearing to be sitting on his head. Not sure if this passes the parent guidance rating! Jan: He loves SUSHI. Brennan: He loves any Apple Mac products he has every one! Theresa: She is a videographer. Sasha: 27 dresses movie poster she has been a bridesmaid twelve times but not yet a bride. John: He’s a tennis player. Matt: He is a famous rugby commentator in Cape Town. Grant: From a high school prom photo. Janine: She loves famous people, wants to be famous and knows who all the celebrities are. Karen: She loves ice skating. Isabel: She starred in Les Miserables in South Africa…
Franco: He builds wooden decking for a living. Duncan: He’s our best man who’s always on standby for work and he often gets called to the office when we’re out. Gerald: Greg and I met him and his wife on the island of Mauritius and there was a big cyclone while we were there. Terry: He’s the father of the bride and is obsessed with travel. Thanks Tiffany and Greg! What a brilliant wedding idea!
This magical French Real Wedding of Ainara and Patrick makes me simply long for a trip to France! Weddings there are like no where else – a brilliant combination of romance, elegance, natural yet refined beauty, a sense of humor and an abundance of passion and pure pleasure. I hope you enjoy this wedding story and the wonderful photos from One and Only Paris , and that it sweeps you away into a lovely weekend!
The Goals: Ainara’s family is from the Basque region of Spain and Patrick’s family is from Paris, so to bring everyone together they rented the spectacularly beautiful Chateau la Durantie in Dordogne, France, which is directly in between. Family and friends came and stayed for the week and made deep connections while cooking, laughing and dining together every night.
The Design: Chateau la Durantie is so gorgeous on its own that there wasn’t much additional decor needed. Ainara and Patrick chose a soft color palette of pink, blue and white to compliment the lavender that grows abundantly on the chateau’s grounds, and they found inspiration for the feel of the whole day in the lush countryside of France and in the “boheme” of the Gypsy spirit.
The wedding ceremony was held outside overlooking the vineyards, and Ainara decided to drive their convertible Mini Cooper filled with the flower girls and ring bearer out to the location. “The children would remember this moment as the funniest of the wedding day. I felt like Snow White and the seven dwarfs!” So fun! Walking down the aisle Ainara remembers looking everyone in the eye, which was a magical feeling for her. “I recommend it to every bride”
After the ceremony they played their favorite song, “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay, and everyone danced and ran behind the couple as they made their way to the gardens behind the chateau for the cocktail hour and tented reception. One of Ainara’s favorite moments of the day!
Wedding favors of Cohiba cigarres, Spanish fans and Chocolates from their dear friend and New York pastry chef Francois Payard were given to guests, and the wedding cake was a traditional and towering (and delicious!) Croquembouche.
The Look: Ainara wore a wedding gown custom made by her sister Cristina Martinez Franco that fit her to a T. “The dress was a dream – beautiful and comfortable. I felt free in it. My sister knows me very well. She captured my personality in this dress.” Her accessories were a vintage veil, shoes by Jessica Simpson and lingerie by La Perla . Patrick wore a vintage 1970s silk tuxedo with accessories from Barney’s New York .
The Moments: At midnight, just before cutting the cake there was a surprise for all the guests – a firework display! They accompanied it with the voice of Pavarotti singing “Nessun Dorma” and simply wowed everyone. Ainara felt “as the sky was giving us a gift.”
